Reid has shown over and over again that he’ll take the best players and roll with an imbalance if there’s enough talent there.

Ross has one path to getting on this team and it’s as the 6th/7th WR. It’s a rough road, because he has to not only convince the staff he’s good enough among the WRs but he also has to beat out the other positions and convince the staff the extra WR is more valuable over a 10th OL or whatever it is they usually go with.

And the ST thing kind of limits his shot as the 6th guy. The team isn’t going to cut someone like Watson so they can keep Ross and take a mulligan on ST play

It’s possible, but it’s a long shot.

Ross will have to be very good to make the team, the odds say he sits on the PS for a year.

Good points.

You don’t see a lot of Andy Reid era Chiefs cast offs (guys who don’t ever make the active squad) being jettisoned and finding great success somewhere else.

It will be interesting to see the percentage of kickoffs returned this year. I expect a drop, but if it’s dramatic enough, that’s basically half the ST snaps gone. Becomes less and less important to keep those ST guys as the NFL attempts to abolish kick returns of all types

ST is way more about punt returns and coverage now for sure.

I just see with the investment the organization has put into players like Justin Watson and Richie James it isn't hard to see that barring injury, Justyn Ross is a huge longshot to make it over them.
A Kemp role with much more upside is not a problem.

Guys just need to look at him like a lottery ticket. If he pans out great, if not no big deal. But, he's exactly the type of guy the team should take a flier on with the little cost associated with it.

Absolutely.

And if he's a special teams gunner and WR#6 or whatever to start with, that's fine. It's a long season, and at some point, if he's good, he'll get his shot.

We needed Kemp in the AFCCG, for ****'s sake. You can be assured that in the NFL, shit will indeed happen.

That is a really nice outlook to have, but that is really all it is.

No one in their right mind is sticking Justin Watson or Richie James on the PS only to be poached to another teams 53 to play Justyn Ross as a gunner.

A lottery ticket is a longshot. That is exactly how I look at him.

Who said that?

We've kept 6 often. With a FB. And even if we don't keep 7, Kemp wasn't always active.

I expect it's likely Watson makes the team, and Ritchie is a lock. Toney, MVS, Moore, Rice, Ritchie, Watson. There's 6.

I think they'll keep 7.

Something not discussed at all is Nikio Remigio has a ton of ST experience so he will have a shot to make it.

You're kind of suggesting that to include Justyn. Andy hasn't carried over 6 WR's on his rosters. Sure, he could change and there could be a 7th WR on his roster this year. But until that happens, I'd put my money on the Chiefs carrying 6, rather than 7.

I'd be more inclined to say that the lack of FB will be filled with a TE like Matt Bushman.

There's no way they're carrying 5 TEs, the offense has very few FB snaps these days.
