This is absolutely not what you’d expect him to get on the open market given the level of his play.
FWIW Barnwell had drue tranquill in the tier of linebackers of "backups likely to earn guaranteed money" and projected salary in the 1.5-3 mil per season. Even if he was in the next tier up Barnwell had those "borderline starters/high end backups" in the 3-5 million per season range.

Forgot about Henne, but that was a good one. He didn’t play often here, but he was money when called upon. The Cleveland Browns playoff game and that long drive in the playoffs against Jacksonville will always be huge.

This kid is smart, he found a team that not only fits him perfectly, but also is competing for championships every year. Could h had found more money elsewhere? Sure, but fit after and opportunity will not be better anywhere else. 13M guaranteed is also nothing too sneeze at, that also gets him a little stability.

He's also a mechanical engineer. Cool cat!

Great signing. He's a an extremely important role player, family guy (saw this on YouTube Chiefs franchise), and cerebral dude which Spags likes.

Much respect to him for taking less to stay with the team, a rarity these days.

Definitely a solid piece for the defense. It likely means the end of Willie Gay. It also is a bridge if we have trouble resigning Bolton next offseason.
