*****The Patrick Mahomes Thread*****

IT ****ING HAPPENED

OP UPDATE:

Because of all the interest in this thread, I've place all of the video content of Patrick Mahomes II's college career, and draft day goodness into a single post that can be found here. Enjoy!

GMFB had Dan Orlovsky on just now (for whatever reason)...

His 2nd to 5th year QB with the most pure physical talent?....Deshaun Watson. LOL

QB he'd like to mentor? Mahomes. Praised some of his physical tools but said he'd like to mentor him to teach him how to play quarterback...

This narrative that Mahomes is some raw, risky, boom or bust QB who only has a strong arm is getting old.

Watson is not some physical specimen freak of nature either. He's a weak armed guy with some great intangibles for the game.

And Orlovsky wanting to teach Mahomes QB is like my 10 year old niece wanting to teach Picasso how to paint

Let's be honest, do you really think Mahomes knows how to sack himself in the endzone for a safety?

OMG What a moron. As if Alex F'n Smith and Andy Reid haven't done enough to develop him, we need DAN ORVLOVSKY to fix him. What a clown.

Of course they are going to tout Watson. The guy was on pace for 38 passing TD’s and 4 rushing TD’s as a rookie.

Nobody is going to tout a QB with zero career TD’s over Watson right now after what he did as a rookie.

Mahomes won’t get this pub until he gets his chance this Fall. Relax..Mahomes will be recognized by everyone soon enough.

I honestly think the whole "raw" narrative comes from a few things:

1. Mahomes ability to throw off the back foot, across his body, into coverage, off balance. These are things normal humans are trained not to do, because their physical gifts are limited. So, people see him do these things you're "not supposed" to do. Really, what they should realize is that you're not supposed to BE ABLE to do these things. And he can. So, they think he needs to be taught like they were. He doesn't.

2. They think he's all raw physical talent. They weren't paying attention to the word coming out of Chiefs' camp predraft. Reid sat with him for HOURS at the whiteboard and was blown away by his mental retention and capacity. This is why they drafted him. Dude has the arm of Favre and the mind of Brees.

3. None of the "experts" had him pegged as a top QB in the draft at all. So, when they get exposed by the best offensive minds in the game all clamoring to be able to take him, they have to save face. So, they say, "well, sure Sean Payton and Andy Reid and Bruce Arians all were killing each other to draft him, but we weren't wrong - they wanted to develop him. MAYBE it will work out, but he wasn't ready enough for us to rate him as highly as he obviously should have been. NOT OUR FAULT."

Great post- pretty accurate- especially #3 and the way the local media has treated Mahomes. KK in particular. They want him to fail so bad so they can say-"See, I was right all along."

How could Orlovsky teach anyone to play QB? He sucked ass. Alex was a good mentor now it’s time for Mahomes to play and gain experience
