Tanoh Kpassagnon signs with the Saints

Hey y’all, resident Saints fan here. I just saw that the Saints are signing a former Chief Tanoh Kpassagnon. What can we expect from him? Is he just depth?

I really hope that he doesn't pull a Shaq Barrett. We laughed at Denver when he left there and blossomed in Tampa. It would really suck for Tanoh to do that to KC

Lol no. Barrett was always a good player, he just didn’t get the opportunity.

KPass has been a starter for 2 years and still can’t rush the passer at all, more or less have a Barrett like breakout.

Saints DE Tanoh Kpassagnon tore Achilles in offseason

METAIRIE, La. -- New Orleans Saints defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon tore an Achilles tendon in the offseason, coach Dennis Allen said Tuesday.

Kpassagnon will not be ready for the beginning of the season, but Allen did not rule out a return in 2024.

"He won't be ready for training camp and then we'll see how long it takes for him to recover," Allen said after the team practiced Tuesday.

Allen said the injury occurred during an offseason running drill in the Saints indoor facility but did not specify when it happened.

Kpassagnon, who turns 30 in June, was set to enter his fourth season in New Orleans as part of the Saints' pass-rush rotation.

He is now one of multiple players on the defensive line dealing with an offseason rehab process. Chase Young, who signed with the Saints in free agency, is out indefinitely due to an offseason neck procedure. Cameron Jordan is also recovering from offseason ankle surgery.

"It's unfortunate when there's injuries that happen ahead of you, and yet it's an opportunity for you to step in and get an opportunity for more reps, potentially more playing time, all types of things," Allen said.

Kpassagnon was a second-round draft pick for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2017. He spent four seasons with the Chiefs and started 15 games there in 2020. He has 16.5 career sacks (9.5 in New Orleans).

He has played in 40 games for the Saints with 10 starts. All three of his sacks last season came against the New York Giants and quarterback Tommy DeVito in Week 14.

"He's been a valuable part of what we do defensively. I think there's some versatility in terms of things he can do," Allen said. "It's unfortunate that that happened ... he's going to work as hard as he possibly can to get himself back out there as soon as he can. When that is, I don't know."

Don't see how anyone could get excited for Saints football with that awful cap and Derek Carr at qb.

Ugh

Guy's entering his 8th year in the league as a raw as hell DL from freakin' Villanova...

I'd say that qualifies as a major success. Honestly, he's a guy that's been mis-cast his entire career as a 4-3 DE when he just lacks the explosion for it. He's an old-school 2-gapping 5 technique, IMO. He's a guy that should be playing end on an Odd front.

He's long and powerful with good leverage but not terribly explosive. He's a guy that should be a 2-down role player not unlike what we did with Tyson Jackson.

Not really. He was plenty physical. The sacks he did get were bull rushing OTs back into the pocket.

He just doesn't have the first step to be truly dynamic. And that's fine - just don't ask him to do things he shouldn't be doing and you have a solid role-player for your troubles.

Ok.

He wasn’t bad, just overdrafted.

Again - not really.

Look at the guys who went in front of him in the 2nd round:

Kevin King, Malik McDowell, Forrest Lamp, Sidney Jones, Adam Shaheen, Quincy Wilson, Ryan Anderson, Justin Evans, DeShone Kizer, Teez Tabor, Reakwon McMillan, Obi Melifonwu.

Have ANY of those guys had better careers than K-Pass?

he's been an average 2nd round pick. 2nd rounders aren't typically world beaters and as many of them wash out entirely as truly make a difference.

He's a pretty forgettable 2nd rounder. Nothing great, nothing awful. He's been roughly what one would expect.

I think he got over hyped here because purely because of his looks. Honestly he wasn't the athlete that Kaindoh was and I don't even know if that guys on the roster. He's carved a fair career in the league. The Saints seem to have a thing for KC castoffs since grabbing him.
