2019 Free agency Thread

We don't really have one of these yet, so figured we could use this as a place to discuss potential free agent acquisitions and what we would like to look for them to bring in.

If any of you guys are interested, heres a good place to do some research.

I haven't seen Howard play much - but these guys on CP seem to like him.

I don’t think Rhodes is a big enough upgrade to

1) be worth the difference in cap space

2) be worth the opportunity cost Fuller/Ward provide. Fuller is in the last year of his deal and Ward has 2 years left before he needs paid. Signing Rhodes keeps one of them on the bench with the great Bashaud Breeland.

Was good his first two years but not last year. Good move for the cost.

He’s young and causes a lot of turnovers.

He wants to be the highest paid CB in football...but I don’t think that’s a bad thing. CBs need that swagger about them.

I’d definetely send Miami a 2 for him and give him 15-17 per year if we can’t get PP or Ramsey.

If they nab a top tier CB and draft Adderley, this defense is going to be very improved right away.

I don't think Rhodes is significantly better than Trae Waynes. Waynes is younger and only had 1 year left on his deal. I'd rather have Waynes than Rhodes.

Then again I'd rather have PP than any of them.

Xavien Howard

7 ints in 12 starts last year.

1 Ramsey (just don’t tell me how much it costs)
2 PP for probably a 2 this year and a conditional pick in next years draft
3 Howard for probably a 2 and would need a new deal for 15m+ per

Not sure who else could be traded for

Jordan Howard was who I hoped I was referring to.

I’m not sure anyone can say he’s a lot better than Ward/Fuller without there being an interesting debate. Both are getting better the more they play and are very young.

If they trade for a vet CB, he needs to be a reliable all pro CB.

If they trade for a CB, it needs to be PP, Howard or Ramsey.

To deal for Rhodes, it would need to be a bargain...like a third. If that’s what it would take, I’m game.
How can anyone make any definitive statement regarding Ward? He started 3 games last year and people are acting like it's known he's a good player.

Agreed. I'd like someone experienced and dependable in front of Ward for this year. I don't want to be forced to rely on him if he doesn't pan out. He definitely improved in his small sample size, but he's far from a proven stalwart.

He seemed to play well, and flash some natural ability. My problem is, so did Marcus Cooper. I think it’s just too early to know, at this point. I would feel better if we added a solid corner.

Completely agree with this. Not only do I not want to rely upon Ward....I don’t think any stock should be put into Breeland either. He was fairly subpar last year in Green Bay.
