2019 Free agency Thread

We don't really have one of these yet, so figured we could use this as a place to discuss potential free agent acquisitions and what we would like to look for them to bring in.

If any of you guys are interested, heres a good place to do some research.

Well I'm assuming Hill doesn't blow up in our faces. And Schwartz will still have plenty of gas in the tank.

So if you want to bring Jones, Hill and Fuller back while re-signing Schwartz - that's a big time cap hit for those guys. And obviously Mahomes is gonna be a MASSIVE hit. We'll likely have to find a $30 million cap buffer in there somewhere. He's not on a minimum deal right now or anything so some of his money is already figured into the budget, but a hell of a lot more is gonna have to be tacked on.

I’m sure Veach is planning on building as much through the draft as possible to keep costs low and then will look to add a few vets with a little gas left in the tank after the draft that will have their money fall off when Mahomes needs bigger checks.

I'd still look at bringing Zach Brown in to play MLB.

Agreed..

The message of starting fresh and rebuilding this defense on all levels loses its message if you bring him back..

I'd like for either him or Collins to end up having to take a small deal they'd both be good fits here.

That’s a move that would really give us some flexibility in the draft.

Folks, I don't think we understand just how much more money we're going to have to load into the cap the next 2-3 years and how little we have coming off. Watkins is the only obvious bit of heavy lifting we can do to clear space. The rest of these guys are getting paid at/near their market value. Perhaps you can replace LDT but hell, LDT's deal's well under market for a player of his caliber, provided he can stay healthy. And people still forget about the screaming bargain we're getting on Schwartz. You can't just cut Fisher either.

This caps gonna get nasty if we can't find a way to funnel a little more money into it and banking some 2019 cap credits can pay off in a big way over the next 3-4 years.
I wouldn't be overly concerned about cap space, the NFL TV deal is set to expire in 2-3 years and when they renew that it will increase the salary cap exponentially. Heck it goes up $10-15 million every year anyway.

And of course the new CBA will play a huge role as well.

It would limit DOD's playing time on the field except in sub-packages but it sounds like that's the route they're going.

You'd have Hitchens - Brown - Wilson in the base package and then you could use Hitchens, Brown or DOD in the sub-packages.

And that's without drafting anyone. It won't make our LB group elite by any means but it gets Ragland the **** off the field.
