The Carolina game was actually one of our toughest now that you mention it. We won 33-31. Teddy threw for 310 and 2 TDs. He has the blue print Elway's been looking for to lose close games to us instead of getting blown out.

Getting Teddy for a 6th is not a bad trade. Looks like they're having trouble trying to trade up so now they wait and hope one of the top 5 QBs fall to them. At least they have Teddy as a backup plan - But I refuse to believe that he is their ultimate goal. Even horseface can't be that brain damaged.

Like many ... once the Panthers acquired Darnold, I figured Denver would make a play for Teddy given our new GM. I can't imagine there are many thinking that this move solves their long-term problems.

The problem is this:

Teddy Bridgewater isn't Alex Smith and it's not even close.

Alex Smith in his first year in KC, threw 23 TD's and 7 INT's. In his one year as the bridge for Mahomes, he threw 26 TD's to only 5 TD's.

Outside of last year in New Orleans, Bridgewater just barely clears a ONE to ONE TD to INT ratio for his career as a starter. Bridgewater threw as many INT's last year as the stopgap in Carolina as Alex Smith in 2013 and 2018 COMBINED.

Nah, it's just some solid depth at a low cost. The fact that Teddy was a starter last year and is a "name", combined with the ongoing struggles Denver has had at the position just gets everybody all hot and bothered.

It's an insurance plan this year and a stop gap for next.

It's a good move for a rebuilding team.

It's obviously not a SB contender move. It's not akin to the Rams trading for Stafford.

Exactly.

I wouldn't at all be surprised to see Bridgewater as the backup rather than the starter. Lock starts and Bridgewater comes in when he falters. Again.

Interesting. You think he's going to start then? I had not seen that they voided his final year.

The real reason to go with Bridgewater is to limit the turnovers but when not surrounded by top-tier talent like he had with the Saints, he doesn't do that.

I mean, in his 2 reasonably healthy years in Minnesota with a decent roster, he had ratings of 88.2 and 85.7. He had QBR's of 54.4 and 57.7. Carolina last year was his highest quality season outside of his stint as the backup in New Orleans and even then, he notched a rating of just 95.7 and a QBR of 64.2.

As bad as Lock was last year, Bridgewater simply isn't that much better.
There were reports that Paton tried to trade Lock in March. He has no allegiance to him but he does with Teddy seeing as he drafted him.

Teddy is also much better. Not sure that’s arguable.

Teddy was 5th completion %, has just under 4K yards and 5 rushing TD’s.

Lock was a turnover machine and 35th in completion %. He’s wildly inconsistent and Teddy is competent

The good thing is that even if Lock sucks and they start Teddy.....he’ll be just good enough to make sure they don’t draft high enough to ever get a good QB.
