I spent a little time digging around in the logs, and there was one IP that was hammering the **** out of us. Like, 80% of our traffic in February came from one place. Guessing it's some sort of a bot - seems like everyone's training AI systems these days.

Anyway, I blocked that IP, and our loads instantly dropped. I can't guarantee that's the main problem, but it was definitely A problem.

Any thought about running the server behind CloudFlare or similar? It would block DDoS attacks and throttle bot IPs if they happen again. It would also let you serve static assets from CDN, reducing the load on the server. The Pro plan starts at $240/yr. and you get a WAF to go with that.

I'm sure people here would chip in for that. It won't solve those database issues, but would likely have stopped the bot from today.

Yeah, I know. And the worst part is that I was going to claim that using CloudFlare would be easy, but had a last minute change of heart. At least I didn't suggest a new platform.

I mean, sure. It'd kind of be like putting a band aid on a wound from getting stabbed with a sword, but it would help.

(But the actual answer is the usual, "not my decision.")
