Top 5 Chiefs Entering Contract Years in 2024

https://kckingdom.com/posts/top-5-ch...4-01j0xnwhd5wc

1. Creed Humphrey
2. Nick Bolton
3. Justin Reid
4. Trey Smith
5. Harrison Butker

They all take hometown discounts to keep winning Super Bowls and we good? We draft/ find cost effective league vets to replace them and keep winning Super Bowls? They all leave and we're doomed? Somewhere in the middle of all of that?

Those are definitely five guys that will be disappointing to see go if the business side of things dictates as much.

He has had a contract since then. He was the highest at signing every time. He is not dumb in that max contract no SB and fewer endorsements. That is not a hometown discount.

Sorry, I was thinking highest paid was already at around $15 million. So let’s say they can keep him for $15 million a year. Is a center worth that, even as good as he is? We won our first title with Austin Reiter at center. That’s all I’m saying.

I’d like to keep him, just seems like it’ll be tough.

We also had a younger Kelce, Fisher, Schwartz, Hill, and (when healthy) Watkins. Offense is much different this time around.

Sportrac has to be counting the 5th year option. Toney was drafted in 2021. That means that 2024 is the 4th year of his contract. 2025 would be year 5, which only happens if the team exercises the 5th year option. The Chiefs declined the 5th year option, making him a free agent after this year. There is no cap hit for 2025. Only a cap hit of $2.5M fully guaranteed for 2024.

No but no Andy Reid offense should not ever want the best center in the game if it ALSO MEANS they have to pay him like he's one. We don't play football like the Philadelphia Eagles. We pass the ball more than any team in the NFL. We use a finesse running game. We never, ever lineup under center on short yardage and barely ever do it anyway. We have no smashmouth running game. We have no bruising RBs. We never and I mean never do a QB sneak. Paying a premium for that position is simply a bad use of resources when there is a finite amount to go around.

We've moved on from our last two great centers and we are going to do it again.

Creed and Butker and then the rest go. Creed's the best pass-pro center we've had from the last 3 and I don't think that's as easy to find as people imagine.

Butker, Bolton, creed and Reid in that priority. But it’s all relative. If anyone asks for too much they drop down the list and are less of a priority to sign. And I would put Butker in a different category than the others. I think Mahomes Kelce Jones and Butker have been critical to our Super Bowl wins. The others have been important. I would also put Sneed in the critical list but I think/hope we will be able to replace him.
