Twins challenge for a wild card spot. End up with the 5th pick in the draft, 3 spots higher than the Royals.
Love the new draft lottery. Thanks for that contribution, Manfred. |

Two more free agent pitchers signed by Phillies and Cubs
The Phillies have bolstered their rotation by agreeing to a four-year deal with free-agent right-hander Taijuan Walker, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports (Twitter links). MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo adds that Walker, a client of the Boras Corporation, will be guaranteed $72MM on the deal. The Cubs have agreed to a four-year, $68MM deal with right-handed starter Jameson Taillon, according to Jesse Rogers and Jeff Passan of ESPN. Taillon is represented by Excel Sports Management. |

The Royals offer was probably just under that.

Wow. Symborski projected 8/280 based on Zips projections.
And prior to last season zips projected 7/213. Obv his HOF season moved the needle quite a bit but as he pointed out age worked against Judge being 30, as well as bidding against themselves (how many franchises even want a 300M contract?) |

Mets payroll is at $298 million and they aren't done spending. Royals probably won't sniff $100 million.

With that dumb lottery, MLB continues to regress for those that would like to see more of an NFL-styled parity market. Unfortunate.

Padres were at 10/400. Giants were pretty close to that. Yankees were at 8/320. Guess Hal called Judge personally and asked what it would take and Judge wanted the 9th year. Got it done.

Oddly enough, because of the lottery rules this is could end up better for the royals than getting say, the sixth pick. Any small market team can't draft in the top 6 3 years in a row, and any big market team can't select in the top 6 2 years in a row. Not only that but you can't draft higher than 10th in the year you are ineligible. So the draft in two years, if the royals aren't in the playoffs, sets up really well because you could have a bunch of teams in front of the royals who can't be in the lottery, thus massively increasing their odds. Honestly after reading the details about it this morning it's easily the worst lottery system in all of sports and it's not close.

The only lottery system that makes sense is the NBA. One player can change a team in basketball. No other sport is like that.

Symborskis update today has a diff value from his Sept appraisal: $311m. So the gap between that and 360 isn’t the same as 280 obv
I have a hard time believing SD would go 400 large after the Machado and Tatis deals, plus I’d suspect they’d rather spend that on Soto |
