That’s it. Moore was not some master draft guru who was playing 4d chess and then had some big advantage removed. The biggest prospects we had in the “best minor league system ever” were 2 top 5 picks(moose and hoss), myers, and a fourth rounder named Jon lamb who we signed in the fourth round for 165k signing bonus, hardly some big over pay. The others were another top pick(Colon), and two guys we got in the greinke deal(odorizzi and jefferes). All this says is that if we pick in the top 5 3 consecutive years and have a cy young winner we can trade to bolster the system then we would be in pretty good shape. Oh and two other huge pieces in our title run were international signings, not draft picks(Ventura and salvy). None of this has anything to do with draft caps being implemented except for myers, who didn’t even turn into anything great. All of the other guys were logical picks who went right where they were supposed to.

The fact of the matter is Moore has generally been a horrendous drafter on both sides of the ball, both before and after the draft changed. The pitching struggles are well known, but he hasn’t been much better on the hitting side either. It’s not an exaggeration to say that literally anyone on this board could have made the first round picks(and frankly on blind luck the rest of the draft) for the royals for the last 16 years and not done worse. Hitting on moose and hoss and probably Witt Jr is hardly some amazing feat of drafting when obvious top picks are taken at obvious times. That isn’t abusing draft loopholes, that’s doing the bare minimum of your job. And for every mid first or comp pick he has sort of hit on(singer manaea) he has busted 10 others who never even made the majors(does anyone honestly remember chase Vallot? I don’t) or were out in 3 years. That’s why he was fired, plain and simple. If the next guy drafts and develops guys as badly as Moore did then he will be out too.
Yeah anyone should have the best farm system in baseball when you're drafting top 10 basically every God damn year.

Then take into account his need to sign shitty gritty free agents that he couldn't seem to get rid of fast enough and you have a shitty GM.

Although it didn't play out well for the inning thus far, I'm glad Bubic had Salvy's back.

On the plus side, we’ll only have to put up with it for a couple more weeks.

I hope the new staff turns Carlos Hernandez into a closer. He could be nasty in that role.
