The hope was that the Royals had a clear spot in mind in Dozier with that investment but it's clear from this season that they didn't. They rightly deserve criticism for that, especially when Dozier is taking up so many at bats in a lineup in a year where younger players could be getting major league time in a lost season.
I think they had a clear position in mind for him - that would be 3rd. But his injury and the glut of premium options at SS which one will end up at 3rd. Lot of that has to do Mondesi's injury and emerging of Nicky Lopez. Have forced him into the super utility role.

Going into spring training lineup of
C Salvy
1B Santana
2B Lopez
SS Mondi
3B Dozier
LF Benni
CF Taylor
RF Whit
DH Soler

That is still the best everyday lineup expect Soler is gone of course.

Next year we need a lights out closer, Barlow would be better served as a set up man along with Tapia & Brentz.

Nice come back after last night!

I heard Nicki Lopez hit a HR tonight. Did it go over the fence and everything? 20 mph wind blowing out or something?

Yeah, I get as frustrated as anyone with officials in all sports but a message needs to be sent here. 1 year suspension seems fitting.

I'm still calling him Nicki until he can hit 5 HR in the majors.

That's it. 5 HR a year. Yank a few. Figure it out.

That should not matter. Nicky is very good at what he does and would have incredible value in any lineup.

It would be much worse if he decided to sell out to hit 10 homers a year (K Wong, or A. Escobar) and instead of hitting liners and hard ground balls started hitting pop-ups and warning track flyouts. He's much more valuable if he's on base instead of swinging for the fences.

Interesting MiLB starts...

Carter Jensen, catcher technically, but maybe a DH or 1B guy is off to a good start. From Kansas City, Park Hill High School.
43 AB, .349, .952 OPS, 7 BB, 12 K, 1 HR.

Barely,just barely 18 years old.

Not just that but he’s 7th in the AL, and 15th in MLB. Batting .297 when the league avg is only .243 is crazy good. The LT avg is .267, so it feels like he’s a traditional .315 hitter in normal times

He also has a legit shot at finishing top 25 in MLB in on-base percentage, which would be pretty great.
