Look at 5 head IMMEDIATELY after the league's testing on it. That's how he'd have looked after his injury in Denver without taking illegal performance enhancers....and then the league wouldn't have gifted him a retirement present on the way out. Dude's career was over after Indy if the rules were followed.

That's $42.28M per year, btw. Great deal by General Paton.

We knew the new deal would happen... QB money is crazy. Lamar, Burrow, Herbert will be interesting new deals.
The top-5 highest paid QB in terms of average annual value now: 1. Aaron Rodgers: $50.271M 2. Russell Wilson: $49M 3. Kyler Murray: $46.1M 4. Deshaun Watson: $46M 5. Patrick Mahomes: $45M |

More guaranteed money than Mahomes, who’s 27 and still ascending.
Obviously, we ALL knew this was coming. Actually, it’s not as high as I thought it would be. That said, it’s a bit of a risk for the Donkos given he hasn’t even taken a snap for them yet. Will he be anywhere close to the old Russell Wilson or the guy that appears to be gaining weight as he ages and whose athleticism continues to decline. Will he stay healthy as he ages? Better be right about this contract or you’re gonna be screwed for several years. And you need to start drafting better as you won’t have as much free agent money to throw around here soon. Wasn’t it KnowMo that said ‘better take advantage of Mahomes cheap years’? Well, you basically have 2 ‘semi-cheap’ years with Wilson before the extension kicks in. Better win something these next couple years cause your window to operate within gets significantly smaller after that . . . . . |

There are no cheap years for Wilson though. The Chiefs were using the basis of a 10 year contract, not 5.
Russell Wilson is the 9th highest paid player in the NFL today. This contract will move him into the top 5. And they don’t have draft picks next Spring. Beautiful. Just beautiful! |

Wilson will be 34 in November. Paying that kind of guaranteed money to a guy who has taken a huge amount of hits over the years until he is 41 seems pretty risky.

In 2023, they have like 5 draft picks starting in R3... and believe they have most of their picks in 2024. So, it will be interesting what they do in 2023, but if Wilson shows in 2022 that he is top QB, it's worth it. |
