American soccer is good for two things: 1) beating Mexico 2) getting suburban parents to spend a lot of money and thousands of hours for their kids to play soccer. |

You don't get it do you? We just don't care enough. Very few kidd dream of being a ****ing soccer star. They'd get laughed at. In other countries soccer is god. The top tier talent is simply oversaturating the big 3 sports because those are tye ones kids dream of playing. These breeds levels of competition down to early playing levels onward and up. Competition brings this out in the other sports that we dominate. |

Still more worried about how pretty the soccer is than actual results. That’s how you end up getting grouped by Panama with far superior talent, yeah.

Or finish dead last in your group at all of the World Cups you’ve played in (which is a pathetic 2) like Canada.

Canada was a complete joke in soccer for the entire sport’s existence until literally like 2 years ago. Shit, even now their program was effectively bankrupt (they are paying Marsch through subsidies from the Canadian MLS clubs). You can’t possibly be praising USA for doing slightly better than that, right?

If Canada wins one more game this week, they’ll have surpassed USA’s best run at Copa in 5 appearances in their first appearance. A country with massively more resources and a gigantic talent pool in comparison to tiny Canada. All of Canada’s best athletes play either hockey or basketball too so that can’t be an excuse either for USA’s underachieving at this sport.

Kind of like how hockey is ingrained in Canada. It doesn't matter that we have a huge population advantage, it is so ingrained in their culture that is what kids dream of doing sports wise.

If it wasn’t clear before Colombia destroyed Panama 5-0, the US was in the worst group of the tournament. How does Berhalter still have a job?
