I really dont know. Next year Drue is gonna count at 8.5 million towards the cap.. (guaranteed base salary of almost 7 million).. willie gay is 3 years younger so we saved 2 million this year but next year we get hit with 8.5 million i think... there are pros and cons... Tranquil was impressive this year. Glad i am not Veach. |

its not "lowball" for 1 year. 5 million is top 20ish for a linebacker. maybe no one would do a good multi year deal so he took 5 milly for a year and will ink a longer deal next year. hes still young... |

I hadn't seen a linebacker on what seemed like every tackle since Ray Lewis was playing. I knew then that they'd bank on him replacing Willie. Back ups or not the dude was literally all over the field. |

yeah, i agree. so they both "got paid" just differently.. although Gay is taking a big risk.....not sure i would be ok with that if i was his agent but if he plays lights out in 2024, he could make it pay off |

Maybe he isn't the all around talent Tranquil is, but sizzle matters too and he's plenty young enough to continue rounding out his game... he should've gotten a better deal IMO |

I’m surprised Tranquill got a better contract than Willie. It feels a bit like Orlando Brown overplaying his hand and settling for way less money with another team.

i guess what i am saying is maybe he wanted more per year so he calculated and took the 5 for this year, thinking he will get a longer & better offer after another season. Big risk but possible big reward? Theres not a ton of LB getting more than 5 milly per season.(25 guys in the NFL?)..but if he gets his 5 this season and then inks something like tranquil did next year, then he will have done pretty well.. awfully risky but he would never have to work again if he pulls it off and isnt an idiot with his money |

I like Willie, but I totally get the sense that he’s a bit of a head case. Enjoy your rings and please stay out of trouble in the Big Easy. Also, Willie, the gay part of the French Quarter has no relation to your surname.
