2024 Salary Cap increases ~$30m
So you're telling me there's a chance (on Jones and Sneed)...

It sounds pretty good with lots of extra money to go around, but every team gets the same amount of benefit. Now, just like in the economy at large, adding extra dollars into the market (demand,) while keeping the number of players constant (supply,) dictates that salaries will rise accordingly (inflation.)

How long until someone somewhere posts how this is another sign the league is rigged for the Chiefs.
This will make every position more expensive but my first thought was about WRs. Given how teams pay the dynamic playmakers, guys like Justin Jefferson and Tee Higgins are going to get paid. Of course Chris Jones is too but hopefully Veach can smooth that out. |

How so? We have eons of flexible space. We could have 65 million in space this year just by a mahomes restructuring and cutting mvs. Even if you keep the year one cap hits only 20% below the aav for jones sneed and a wr that only accounts for 50m or so. 1st year hits will obviously be lower than 20% below the aav for jones and sneed. People tend to overlook the fact that the cap increase isn’t going to go away, and in all likelihood will continue to increase. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

So what's to stop Jones agents from wanting a slice of the bigger pie and asking for 35 million per?
Seem like these increases only make previous contracts a better deal and just drives up the price of new contracts. |

Open thought:
Is Veach now more comfortable swinging a trade for a player who will command a contract in the near term, ala the Justin Jefferson's of the world? Or will everyone's new contract asks just scale up accordingly? |

So while the price of tagging a player is the full boat, if you are able to come to terms on a multiyear player like Jones, his cap hit is going to be pretty reasonable in year one. So while that would allow you to goo on a shopping spree, that's not what the good teams are going to do. That is unless you think there is a clear advantage to do so.
For example, I don't think the Chiefs are going to trade for stud WR. Never going to happen because the loss of draft capital is what would hurt this team in the future. But if there is a FA that makes sense, maybe you do it. Say for example Mike Evans, who would be perfect in this offense. He's older and you could structure a three year deal where you could make it work. Now, I still think its unlikely because the Chiefs have a lot of guys they need to pay. |
