Reality compression can squish the brainpan. Believe me, I know about that ...
The only conceivable way that NFL defenses can stop the Chiefs is to pressure Mahomes AND drop back about 8 DBs. That's impossible because you run out of guys. So you have to choose; either you blitz (and Mahomes had the highest passer rating in the league against the blitz last year) OR you drop everybody back and try to cover by playing deep and protecting yourself from the big play (and that didn't work very well last year, either ... because our WRs just ran the enemy DBs and LBs into the ground). It's a lose/lose proposition. That leaves you with one winning strategy only; you have to keep the offense off the field. Standard NFL logic dictates that you do that with a ball-control running game, going for it on 4th down more often, and using the short-to-intermediate passing game as an extended handoff (the crosser that the Immigrant Blowjobbers used comes to mind, for example). Teams like the Seahags (and their QB put on a damn clinic that day), the Ravens (who held us to 27 points by running the ball 40 times), the Bolts (who owned us on TOP and averaged 5.0 yards per rush), and of course the Immigrant Blowjobbers (who ran the ball 48 freaking times and had 44 minutes to our 23 in TOP AND had 36 first downs to our 18). Those are the blueprints that DCs are going to use in an effort to figure us out and keep their jobs. Offensively, we struggled against stout d-lines that know how to effectively stunt and twist (Arizona and the Immigrant Blowjobbers come to mind). That was our achilles heel ... not classic run defense, not zones, not man-to-man, and not combo pass Ds. And that failure was on the o-line and Wally for calling plays that don't take full advantage of stunts (and maybe some of that is on Mahomes for not taking the release valve who was typically wide open in the damn flat). So ... what do Veachy and Wally do? They realized all this before the AFCCG was over and immediately implemented their plan to stop the damn run, get the ball back, and get our offense on the field again ... to do what they do. That's where Clark and Okafor and Matheau and those guys come into the equation. Stop the run. Stop the short crosser. Get the turnover. We have an offense today that is virtually unstoppable given a fairly even number of possessions. Spagnuoliolo knows that because Wally tells him to know that. Stop the run, get the friggin' ball back, keep the TOP relatively even, and let the offense average 40 points a game. Every coach and player on the team gets it and they're gunning for dominance on the way to the Super Bowl. We are going to be something to behold. FAX |

I think people need to cool their jets with the "Maybe Veach will sign somebody after preseason cuts or work out a trade!"
It's just not likely to happen. Occasionally it does, but for teams like us who are going into a season with holes in the roster (on defense), how often do they work out a trade or a signing that fixes that shit right up? Not very often. Not even among aggressive GMs like Veach. The Chiefs knew what they had last year in Mahomes. They saw it. So yeah, they certainly did make some changes to improve the defense after the 4th preseason game! They signed Orlando Scandrick, Ron Parker, and traded for Charvarious Ward! Whoop de damn doo! I mean, the Ward trade was pretty nice because we gave up a player we were just never going to use, but we barely touched him at all the entire season, and the whole point of people hoping Veach is going to pull a trade out of his ass that's going to fix something critical we lack on defense is so we can plug in that help immediately and be a much much better team in the short term. The NFL isn't a magical world full of cinnamon bun-farting unicorns where all of your dreams come true. It's bitter and shitty and doesn't smell like cinnamon buns in the slightest. You can throw coins in a fountain and wish upon a star all you want, but if that wish comes true, you're only gonna get Orlando Scandricks and Ron Parkers. That's life. |

I actually agree with SNr, at best a trade right now is gonna bring you some back end depth
That’s not really a bad thing, but if we’re at this point and have to have starters, the administration has ****ed up the offseason |

It may not be a cinnamon bun morning today, Mr. RealSNR, but tomorrow it may well be raining a virtual torrent of cinnamon buns. Such is the way of the world.
This day we may bewail the paucity of cinnamon buns, yet the next, we find ourselves up to our ears in cinnamon buns while the icing acts like a viscous stickum adhering our eyes permanently shut and causing our hair to appear as if some perverted baker has ejaculated on our scalp. We must, therefore, count our blessings and give thanks for our bran muffins. FAX |

Lots of new coaches around the league that after this weekend will know what players don’t fit their scheme. Veach talked about it on the franchise. How he has a few teams they are monitoring “groups of 3-4 players” each that might be opportunities for trades/signings.
