The Braves must have a signability guy they’re really sold on. Watch it be Sam Horn because wouldn’t that be perfect?
Waters is a super tools-driven prospect so I’m not surprised KC likes him. He’s just a year removed from being a top 50 prospect, to give an idea of how good those tools are. Consistent concerns are about his ability to improve his approach. Considering KC’s recent developmental success with that, it’s a good shot to take. If Zumwalt et al can help him as much as thy helped Melendez and Pratto, it’s a home run return. |

It’s the Royals so you know it’s going to be a shitty trade return.

I am cautiously optimistic about the return the Royals should get back for Beni. Seems like a strong market is setting up for him.

I've seen this mentioned elsewhere, but the Royals should really try and package Barlow with Beni if they send him to a contender. That could possibly bring back a REALLY nice return.

It might PROVE to be one, but judging at the time, it is somewhere from a good return (a top 10 and a top 20 prospect and a throw in) to a really good return (depending on where you have Waters ranked. I suspect BP and MLB will have him in the top 10 due to his tools). Waters had to be added to the 40-man roster before Rule V draft, the Braves are in a 40-man roster crunch situation, and Waters has been passed by another prospect in their system (Michael Harris II). |

Is he a plus plus defender? Milb stats look a little underwhelming for a previous 2nd rd pick but if he can defend like Cain or Brett Phillips then all for it.

Waters' is not as good a defender as either of those guys. He's probably a fringy CF for the Royals/Kaufman Stadium.
His offensive upside is pretty high, though. Higher than Phillips. In April of 2021, he was a consensus top 40 prospect. He has failed at AAA so far, but his failures are nowhere close to as bad as those of Melendez and Pratto (and are happening at a higher level). The Royals are banking on their hitting guys being able to fix the approach issues that have stalled Waters' progress at AAA. It's a calculated risk, but one I'm interested to see |

I still feel like this team won't contend again till Moore is gone, his inability to develop starting pitching is a real problem, loyalty to people he shouldn't be loyal to.
And on top of that his complete drive to love toolsy prospects that don't show return, being a great natural athlete doesn't translate to baseball perfectly. Yes a guy may be able to field great because of it, run the bases well etc..but hitting is a skill and no amount of great athlete can translate into this guy can hit. |
