I think I may have given a poor example of the Reverend Heat.
Tell you what, drink a ton of beer and ingest copious amounts of "magic" mushrooms and chill out in a field with a bunch of your friends and some of the Reverend's stuff pumping out of your designated drivers car stereo. It's an experience... |

Beer gives me a headache. prefer funky whiskey mixs, always trying new concoctions, hell, have some mushrooms in the back yard, hmmmm?
That talk of souls and the Devil was originated by a dude from the Mississippi Delta named Tommy Johnson talking late 20's. We saw him in the movie "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" Chris Thomas King played the part. But the guy who made that sell your soul at them crossroads story famous was Robert Johnson who recorded in 36/37. And unlike Tommy he had a few songs about the devil. But......it really wasn't the Devil it was a God known as Legba, the God of them crossroads they were dealing with. Ok, really liked The Devil is Chasing Me, so, we need a set paying homage to songs about the Devil. Peetie Wheatstraw was a St.Louis piano player who also told the story, do doubt he hauled a piano out to them crossroads, haha!!! Last edited by Ubeja Vontell; 04-12-2020 at 04:47 PM.. |

Tommy Johnson doing his "Canned Heat Blues" which was some weird moonshine mix, shoe polish???? The blues/rock band Canned Heat took that name from this song, they knew them old blues.
In the movie "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" Louisiana blues man Chris Thomas King played the part of Tommy Johnson Too bad those behind the movie didn't know them blues. The song Tommy is singing there belonged to another old blues cat named Skip James, he recorded it in 1930 a few years later than the Mississippi flood.
