I've never really followed basketball, and never understood what the big deal was. His stats aren't that great as a pro. It sounds like he was a great college player, and maybe a great announcer? Is that the reason? Whatever the story, RIP, though.

My wife and I ran into Bill Walton at a concert at Humphrey's by the Bay in San Diego. My wife was a Clipper Skipper cheerleader during his time with the Clippers. He was pretty pleasant. He definitely was a bit buzzed!

Ultimately went on to become one of the more memorable basketball announcers of his time. |

This sucks, RIP Big Man! You were very good on the court but an excellent person away from it!

Then, drafted Sabonis but he wouldn't (couldn't?) leave USSR until his knees were pretty shot. He was still pretty good but if he would have come over during his prime while teamed up with Drexler and co., Jordan may not have won quite so many rings. And then there was Greg Odom. I was not following as closely by then but I am pretty sure he had lower extremity issues as well and never really did much as a top pick. Such is the life of a Blazer fan. |

RIP gentle old hippie. I remember Bill at UCLA. His hands would be 2 feet over the rim as he dropped it in the bucket'. Dunking wasn't allowed in college then until I think his senior year.

Pretty much spot on his NBA career never was as dominant as we figured it would be out of college. I don't know if it was injuries or whatever. He was a good announcer who didn't know when to shut his stories down and get back to the game at hand.
