Seizures

Sorry and yall can ban me but saw the seizure thread was closed (OK the emergency today). It is serious and I have epilepsy. It usually starts when young and most grow out of it as they get older. I did not get mine till until in the Army and like 27 YO. I noticed people saying he did not take his medication etc but mine showed up in a unit meeting at 26 or so. No, I did not take my medication cause I had no idea that I had epilepsy. So much misunderstanding about it to be honest including myself back then. I mean you wake up in a hospital and have no idea what happened, least the 1st time. Got accused of trying to cash in since I was a ATC (93C) in the Army and after training could make 3 X's what the Army paid (and having to wait 6 months after leaving at the same base) What they did not know is that after 2 seizures you could never get your pink card (required for the job) ever again. They had me fill in for the 1st Sergeant and most realized at that meeting when I seized up, I was not faking it besides their ignorance of epilepsy and ATC rules. Couldn't drive, couldn't do my job and it was hell for me if honest. I tried all the "legal" drugs for 2 years and side -effects were almost as worse. My story how I went from drinking to being a pot-head. No seizures once I started toking but 1 at the begging of trying anything. . Been 12 years now since my last seizure. Never try to clear their tongue by the way. You will be good to be able to even hold em down is all. Ask my roommate in the Army and the dude was a RB from college. Thighs bigger than my waist. Live and learn.

If you or anyone you know has epilepsy, make sure that you have some type of rescue medication available, or a plan. A lot of kids now receive prescriptions for Valtoco, which is intranasal diazepam. Absorption is rapid and it's not as embarrassing to use as Diastat, so use in a public place isn't as embarrassing.

Any seizure that lasts more than a few minutes is a medical emergency, as status epilepticus can cause lasting damage.

Just kidding but could you put that in laymen's terms?
I don't know what you're talking about. I take Keppra once daily.

Is it extended release? If not, it should be.

Basically, you want to stop seizures as soon as you can. If they are prolonged, patients can enter a state called status epilepticus, where they can't stop seizing. To avoid that, patients will have a rescue medication that will stop the seizure.

The simplest way to think of it is a seizure is your brain stepping on the gas to the point you lose all control of the car. The rescue med is the brake. Most rescue meds are benzos. Since a layperson can't start an IV on a seizing patient, you need a device to get benzodiazepines into their blood stream as fast as possible. For many years, people used a rectal gel called Diastat, but it's not always easy to jam an applicator up someone's ass and hold their cheeks shut. Thus, intranasal devices are more widespread now.

Sorry for the long post but there is a lot to tell.

At the end of this month will mark the anniversary of what happened to me 2 years ago. I had a seizure just after walking on my morning break. All I remember was that it was a hot day and I was getting thirsty, or dehydrated. The fact that my brother in law and his wife had come over to hang and drink a few (too many) the night before probably had something to do with that. I told my coworkers who were walking with me that I had to cut our walk a couple of blocks short and go back in the building. I sat down at my PC with a bottle of water and I don't remember much after that.

Apparently, sometime within the next 20 minutes, I seized up, making weird sounds and tipped over in my chair onto the concrete floor (ended up with a goose egg on my head). The next thing I remember is waking up in an ambulance on the way to the hospital. I was really confused, as you can probably imagine. Slowly, my brain started coming around and I started understanding what was happening. Of course, it helped that the EMT explained what had happened.

I was in the trauma for awhile before they admitted me for the night. During that time, they ran all kinds of tests (various blood labs, 2 different types of CATscans, MRI, etc). They didn't do an EEG until the next day (if memory serves, they said they couldn't get a good EEG until the next because they had given me some anti seizure meds).

The only thing that all of these tests results showed is that I am healthy. Nothing was out of normal range. That was the frustrating part. Never had a seizure in 50 years of living on this Earth until that day. If it was something that had done to cause it and I could change, I would have.

My wife had me convinced that I was just super dehydrated from drinking too much the night before. And when she told me that one of our close friends had something similar happen to him recently, she had me convinced that was probably what caused it. So, from that point on, I tried to not drink too much and always stay hydrated.

Fast forward 11 months. It was the Saturday morning before Memorial day. I had only had a couple of beers the night before. Felt fine other than I think I might have had one of those ocular migraines that I had been getting for a few years. They only happen occasionally and I take some ibuprofen and they tend to go way after about 30-45 minutes.

So, I felt fine after that went away and the wife and I headed out to run some errands. About a half mile down the road, I started feeling a sense of dread and everything started going dark. I pulled over immediately and parked. Next thing I remember was waking up again in an ambulance on the way to the hospital. Let me tell you, that made me a little angry and very sad (just wanted to scream out "why, God...why now?").

This time they only ran a few blood tests. Everything was normal, yet again. So, they still have no idea why I had these seizures. The only family I know of that had a history of epilepsy was my cousin, who has had that since she was a kid. After the first one, I chose not to get on meds (I hate taking medicines) but after the 2nd one, I knew I had to start taking the meds. The one I started taking has been around for decades and is well known for this type of thing. And, so far, it seems to be working.

Anyway, I know with mine they said I aspirated. I saw that BJ Thompson had cardiac arrest. That's nuts for such a young guy. I'm thankful that neither of mine were quite that bad. These things can be very serious medical events. I hope and pray that he gets better.

It has been over a year now and I have not had any more seizures(knock on wood). I haven't been able to ride the last 2 riding seasons but I am finally able to enjoy it again this year. Know that we are all only here temporarily and life your life to the fullest.
This is all. Shit happens but until it does to you well.

The free versions are just as good unless you need current information from the WWW. The paid LLMs have ability to 'scrape' information from real time. The free versions generally can only access web information from around 2022 and before.

That's based on ChatGPT. I don't know the specifics for all LLMs.

If you're just using them to create the documents with no need for current information research involved there's no difference.

There's a brave new world coming. Buckle up!

Crap. I started getting ocular migraines a couple of years ago. Only happens about once every 6 months or so, but now you have me worried that I'm going to start having seizures.
