I didn't realize she was 27. ****, 20 is "old" for a gymnast. She's basically a fossil.

I'm honestly glad she's killing it this year. After the last Olympics, if she'd have faltered (even if for legit things - like being 27) there would be waaaaaaay too many people delighting in her failure. Nevermind all the world stuff she's won the last 3 years that nobody is paying attention to.

I'm glad she's doing well.

Can we stop using major international competitions as a chance to give aging veterans their flowers? At least women’s soccer finally put their foot down by not even including Alex Morgan despite a prolific career. I get if you want taurasi on the women’s basketball roster as a sign of respect but starting her is bonkers.

It’s still stunning they didn’t invite Caitlin clark purely for the eyeballs she’d bring to the game. I have zero interest in watching this game outside of the box score.

This thread probably isn't the best place to get too far into that discussion. As I understand it, the confounding issue is that this is a gender abnormality rather than a "choice" (e.g., transgender). In other words, she's got biological lady parts despite having XY chromosomes (at least as far as I can figure out).

But I'm definitely not an expert here and agree that it seems like someone with extra testosterone has what seems like an unfair advantage.

I know it’s a difficult subject, but I think we can try to discuss it reasonably. Of course I’m probably wrong.

Yes, it’s possible this person was born with ambiguous genitalia. When working at the children’s hospital, in 12 years there were maybe 10 cases. And the parents have to make the decision to on a gender in a very short period of time. But if you have an excess of testosterone then tough decisions have to be made.

Yea, I was way off on that. KCC gave some good info above. I followed that up and found out she had a chromosomal anomaly.
