Let's talk about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Super Bowl Edition)

Second straight Super Bowl win incoming.

Time to send old man Brady out to pasture.

He’s gonna be matched up on a LBer all night and I’m sorry but White or David for that matter are not going to cover him well more often than not.

This kind of game is exactly why you draft him. He can be an X-Factor, much like Watkins, for teams that want to overcommit resources to Hill and Kelce.

Keep an eye out for some of those RB pass plays we’ve used in the past. Slip out between the guard and tackle from the opposite side of the line down close to the end zone. Seam/wheel/corner type routes downfield.

Pretty sure I remember reading that White graded out as one of the worst coverage linebackers in the league.

Obviously a great run defender and great at blitzing, but apparently a liability in coverage.

White is terrible in coverage, David is their coverage linebacker.

Crazy that I’ve gone two weeks without watching any coverage. It’s honestly been nice. I’m ready for that second championship now.

There’s a Buccaneers Reddit page with this stat from 74 days ago:

Devin White has a 35.9 grade through 11 games this year. In pass coverage, he’s been targeted 66 times, allowing 58 receptions for 549 yards (87.9%).

I knew he was bad, but it’s worse than I thought. David is gimpy, so that could be a huge opportunity for us to exploit.

From Football Outsiders SB Preview:

Quote:
You might be surprised to see that Tampa Bay is poor covering tight ends because of the accolades given to linebackers Lavonte David and Devin White. Well, White has a lot of strengths but pass coverage is not one of them. By SIS charting, he allowed 7.1 yards per pass with a 40% success rate in coverage. David was much better, with 4.3 yards per pass and a 59% success rate. The other issue here, and with all the short passes against Tampa Bay, is broken tackles. The Chiefs ranked fifth in broken tackle rate (12.0% of plays) and the Bucs were 26th on defense (11.3%). Kelce led all tight ends in broken tackles and his 24.8% broken tackle rate was a major outlier for tight ends, with Dalton Schultz as the only other tight end above 15%. And based on the regular-season SIS numbers, both David (17.6%) and White (16.0%) had worse-than-average broken tackle rates for linebackers with at least 50 tackles.
