What went wrong against the Broncos?

From 27-0, to.... that.

In a few weeks, nobody is really going to care what the game looked like, only that we got the W.

But for tonight, and for the next few days, I want to know what changed between 27-0 and the end.

I don't think anybody is comfortable with anything, other than Andy Reid and Mahomes give us a good chance every week.

There's this thing called the salary cap, and this other thing called the draft, where the worst teams get to pick first 7 times while the best teams pick last. It's all designed to keep the games competitive. It's kind of a cool system, you should look into it.

All teams have weaknesses, and good ones have strong points, and great ones have players that can overcome.

If you try to tell me that in April you'd be really pissed that we're 10-3 and just beat the Broncos in Denver in a close game, I'll call bullshit.

Offense is scoring 24-28 a game and we don’t have Hardman or Toney back.

You guys realize how much better the offense will ne with both of them back?

Man, they got up 27-0 and lost focus for about 5 minutes of game play. They had one foot on the plane. Mahomes got sloppy, the defense lost focus, and Donks scored 21 points in 5 minutes.

The other 55, Chiefs dominated.

There's really no need to freak out.

These guys are professional athletes and human; while I was never at that level, I can relate what happens when everything is easy and working from my bowling experience. Everything is easy, the team just smoked the other team by over 100 pins. Strikes and spares are routine. The next game starts, the team opens the first frame and the other team gets strikes and spares. Uh oh, they are coming back. Suddenly, everything that seems so easy isn't happening. Spares are missed, strikes turn into solid 10 pins and the other team is gaining ground.

Once you lose that focus, it's hard to get it back. It's hard to explain because the focus was just 'there' and when it was gone, it's GONE. You can't just wish it back. The harder you try, the worse things get.

Or anyone that plays golf; some days, everything is working great and then you feel like you've never played this damn game. Momentum is a real thing.

What really worries me is the “because Chiefs” bullshit they pull on themselves.

The Chiefs have beaten themselves so many times in the Andy Reid era. They get up big on an opponent and then get overconfident.

Yesterday reminded me an awful lot of our debacles. Indy and Titans with Alex, Bengals with Mahomes last year.

Yesterday reminded me so much of the AFCCG. It’s almost like I don’t want us to be up big.
I feel safer being down 10 points rather than being up big

Not much went wrong. A win on the road with no major injuries is a good day.

Why the game became close was Broncos rallied because they have pride and even if they players may think Hackett is not HC material, they rallied behind him.

The DC, Ejiro Evero, was college teammates with Hackett and players seem to play hard for him.

NFL games can always become close games if a team is not giving up and playing hard and that DPI call against McDuffie was a gift from the official to a home team getting its ass kicked.

Even Russell Wilson showed some heart and ran for that first down when he knew it was risking injury.

Jerry Jeudy showed something and that was a nice throw by Rypien on that TD on 4th down.

Chiefs rookie DBs got beat on a couple plays, and the screen pass to Mack was the perfect call for the blitz the Chiefs ran. Could question why they ran that specific blitz, but it was no big deal in the big picture.

Plus I believe the defense got winded; anyone who has gone snow skiing and gotten out of breath knows that it's like. It takes time to recover; especially when you aren't used to it. These are big men, exerting themselves and using a lot of oxygen.

Chiefs beat reporters are annoying sissies.

They must feel like the Chiefs fans that will pay to get behind paywalls are the worry warts that do not know much about tackle football as it is played in the National Football League.

IMO, telling that Andy Reid was mellow as could be compared to the bullshit worry about everything shit the reporters wrote after the game.

Game was like Miami in 2020, Chiefs win relatively easy with 1.5 great quarters of great play and other team having some good moments playing really hard and Mahomes flips his MVP odds because of 3 interceptions. All three interceptions were super plays by the defenders.

Mahomes has to win by 2 places to get MVP, even though Hurts is actually earning it considering his role on a 12-1 team.

I understand where we are and am not mad at it. We intended to have a WR1 but the timing of Tyreek getting poached made it impossible. I personally thought this was a transition year and that any success is just gravy.

But if we're going to prioritize why is giving mahomes weapons last on the list? What we've seen this year is that defenses are finding ways to get after Kelce. They're spying mahomes to keep him in the pocket. They're playing man on our WRs like never before. And it's not like we're doing this cheaply. We are talking about juju getting $20m+ to be big but not fast and $10m to mvs to be fast but no good against press, while other teams give $30m to one dude who can do both without disappearing. We are at a point where we need to start seeing returns from skyy.

Again I am fine with where we are now. But next season when we pick our spots getting mahomes a weapon can't be priority Z. Juju and mvs have been too inconsistent lately to rely on.

The Chiefs went up 27-0 and let up.

I know guys on this board have been on competitive sports teams before.

I have, and when you're having your way with a team, just beating the brakes off them, you know it.

It's not unthinkable to let up, when you don't feel like you have to go 100%.

Broncos crept back in, but the defense held when they had to and the offense scored when they had to.

Chiefs are "blessed with curse" of being the highest scoring offense in the NFL...with an all-universe QB.

What does this mean? It means they are almost always going to be favored...and the majority of gambling money will be placed on them.

This traps them in a financial box...if KC is favored by 5 points and all the bets are coming in on them, they have a 4 point margin in which they have to work.

Vegas hates teams like KC...would rather everyone be the Titans...where they can go either direction on a given week without anyone batting an eye. The NFL striving for "parity" isn't motivated by what most people think it is...

The good news is the Bengals have beaten KC 3 straight times...and the Bills also beat them earlier this season. This could play out big in the post-season as KC might be the underdog...which gives them the wiggle room to score at will...as long as the money isnt grossly lopsided on them.

KC's "hot and cold" streaks are spread driven...it's not that they are bored or uninterested.

KC had an 8.5 point window to work with yesterday...how many times have you ever seen Mahomes throw into quadruple coverage? That 3rd INT protected the spread. They were up by 6 and even a FG kills millions for Vegas..

That late PF against Jones against the Colts protected the spread...

Vegas wanted people to take the under yesterday.

Which is why I thought the over was going to be the bet on that game and even had pushback on the Broncos scoring 20.
