There is less oxygen at altitude, which requires less octane in the fuel to get the proper mixture. That's why you see 85 octane unleaded in the mountains and nowhere else.

From my experience the prices are still higher than 87 octane in the flatlands, though.

Gas was at least 50 cents cheaper in Wisconsin and Ohio, compared to Indiana and Illinois.

5.69 in Philadelphia.


Of course, since I was in new Jersey, I COULD NOT PUMP MY OWN GAS!!!!!!!
