Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay on the Outs?

Quote:
Aaron Rodgers doesn't want to return to Green Bay Packers, sources say
Reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers is so disgruntled with the Green Bay Packers that he has told some within the organization that he does not want to return to the team, league and team sources told ESPN on Thursday.

The Packers are aware of his feelings, concerned about them and have had team president Mark Murphy, general manager Brian Gutekunst and head coach Matt LaFleur each fly out on separate trips to meet with Rodgers at various points this offseason, sources told ESPN.

"As we've stated since the season ended, we are committed to Aaron in 2021 and beyond," Gutekunst told ESPN. "Aaron has been a vital part of our success and we look forward to competing for another championship with him leading our team."

Rodgers has not budged this offseason, but neither have the Packers, who have made it known they are not interested in trading Rodgers anywhere.

The San Francisco 49ers called the Packers on Wednesday night, a source told ESPN, and the Los Angeles Rams inquired about Rodgers in January before they traded for Matthew Stafford.

The Packers quickly dismissed the Rams' overtures, the source said.

The Packers have offered to extend Rodgers' contract, sources told ESPN.

Rodgers is unhappy for a variety of reasons, with some of it dating back to last year's draft when the Packers didn't inform him before trading up to draft a quarterback with their first-round pick. Some took this as a sign that his days in Green Bay could he numbered.

He also is at a different point in his personal life, having recently gotten engaged to actress Shailene Woodley. Rodgers also has hosted "Jeopardy!" and said it would be a dream to become the full-time host. He could play football and host Jeopardy! together.

Rodgers has made cryptic comments about his future in Green Bay, but he has told others that he does not want to return.

On draft night, the Packers' biggest issue isn't who they land, but whether they can keep the former NFL MVP.

Rodgers' contract contained a $6.8 million roster bonus due in March. It could have been converted into a signing bonus that would have freed up more than $4.5 million in salary-cap space for this season but instead it "vested as scheduled," a source told ESPN at the time. It's listed as an automatic conversion in Rodgers' contract but even that has to be signed off on by both parties. It's not known if the Packers tried to convert and Rodgers refused to sign off on it, or if they did not attempt a conversion.

Dude, are you talking about Mahomes cap hit?

If so, you really must not have any idea how the cap and contracts work.

Mahomes is still on his rookie contract, his 10 year extension doesn't even start till next year.

Mahomes was due a $20M+ roster bonus in March of this year but KC restructured his deal to free up cap space. They're not going to be able to get away with paying Mahomes peanuts for much longer...

They can actually do this any year they want according to this report

Quote:
Mahomes' contract includes a clause that the team can convert salary or bonuses into a signing bonus automatically -- i.e., they don't have to let the QB know they're performing the restructure. We're confident Mahomes isn't complaining about getting a lump of cash dumped into his account. The star QB was scheduled to count $24.8 million against the cap in 2021.

The highest rated QBR of any starter the Doinks have had over the past 5 years was #21..that was 2016 with Siemian.

They haven't has a QB rated above #29 in four consecutive seasons...that's a new level of suck.

2016 #21 Siemian
2017 #30 Siemian
2018 #29 Keenum
2019 Neither Lock nor Flacco qualified in the top 30
2020 #29 Lock

Bridgewater was listed at #17 last year....he's their brightest prospect in a half decade...

Right now ...just trying to find an average starter would be a 1st since HGH-Boy decided to quit cheating the league...and blaming his wife.

The odds of them finding anyone remotely close to the talent level of Mahomes is almost zero..unless they land the #1 overall pick in a year with a "cant miss" prospect..

So yes...it's going to be a loooong decade in Donkoland.

Fangio is just average enough for keep them from ever picking high enough...vicious cycle.

Their fans know it too...if they dont land Rodgers (they wont), It'll be 3 years in a very best, dream scenario for them to challenge for the AFCW. 2024 season at the absolute earliest..and that is contingent on drafting a top notch QB.

I wonder if Donk fans realize that in 2018...Rodgers played all 16 games and the Packers went 6-9-1 and finished in 3rd place? They were 1-7 on the road. The only Divisional game they won was the season opener 24-23 vs. Chicago at home. The last place Lions swept them...

He actually threw the same exact number of passes as last year...372.

It's also worth noting that Packers from 2013 to 2018 (6 straight seasons in his prime) only won more than 10 games once...

Something to think about with a 5-11 roster and potentially having to trade away some of your best young talent... and mortgaging your cap/future drafts.

Donks defense actually graded out lower than KC last season...20th in the NFL while GB ranked 8th. Packers had the #2 rated O-line vs. the Donks 25th.

Rodgers would definitely upgrade their QB position...but history shows his yearly W/L record fluctuates quite a bit depending on the strength of his supporting cast.

This place can get kinda boring without guys like that. The Denver regulars here have turned into right good dudes. It's gross.

Phoenix crew would welcome Vailpass to a get together when it should be that he's only invited so we can bash is brain in with a beer bottle.

Mahomes has softened us.

According to goofs at the Mane, Denver would be a no-doubt prohibitive favorite with Rodgers and no one else's roster comes close. Those dispensaries are churning out some good shit.

Funny thing is...some of the same people admit that Fangio has singlehandedly cost them at least three wins in each of the last two years. So, according to ManeLogic, Rodgers is so damn good that he would overcome Fangio AND transform a perennial 5-6 game winner into an obviously superior team to an improved version of the 14-2 Chiefs. And Buccaneers.

For comparison, Mahomes has improved our win record by 2 games/yr over Smith's average.

These clowns....

Living in Denver, I've realized that the Broncos fanbase is largely delusional. Between the Avs and Broncos, they had so much success in the late 90s and early 00s that they seem to think that winning championships is easy. And to be fair, they managed to do it with Peyton.

But I just don't see where they're coming up with this idea that the team is 90% of the way there and just needs Rodgers to put them over the top. Their defense isn't bad, but I wouldn't put them in the top 10 defenses in the league. Their offense is a dumpster fire, and while Lock is a lot of the problem, their OL is a mess, and they don't have a skill position player who has accomplished anything other than the occasional flashy play.

Would Rodgers help? Sure, probably. But it would help in the sense of being a playoff contender - not a Super Bowl contender. And with the picks they'd have to give up to get Rodgers, it would make it even tougher to build what they need to take the next step from there.

I suppose that's better than being truly awful every year, but Chiefs fans have been down the road of long-term mediocrity, and it's not really that much fun.
