A Pre-Season Level Headed Review Week 2 2024

Injury Report:
BJ Thompson - Out (Medical)
Charles Omenihu - Out (Knee)
Marquise Brown - Doubtful (Shoulder)
Jawaan Taylor - Questionable (Shoulder)
Wanya Morris - Questionable (Bone Bruise)
Clyde Edwards-Helaire - Questionable (Illness)
Kelvin Joseph - Questionable (Hamstring) - Played
Chris Jones - Questionable (Shoulder)

Starting WR Line up was Rice, Worthy and Watson.

MAHOMES WITH THE BEHIND THE BACK PASS!!!

Worthy - first catch was a false start but the 39 yard catch was a thing of beauty. That TD pass from Wentz was too easy. Worthy is going to make defenses pay for leaving him one on one. (3/6 - 62 yards 1 TD & 1 Rush 11 Yards)

Watson with a nice catch on the first drive - I think he is a lock as your #4/Possession receiver. (1/1 - 20 yards)

Hicks with another great open field tackle on the first drive. Refreshing to see sure tacklers in the secondary. Hicks looked really tired by the end of the second. Had one near miss wide open and the catch at the 5 yard line at the end of the second was his guy to cover. To be fair it looks like he had played every D snap for the first half - but nice break-up in the Endzone.

Hardman as the primary PR/KR with LRZ & Steele.

Niang got owned and pushed back into the screen pass to Steele otherwise he would have had a nice gain.

Rice first two drives numbers were 4/5 35 yards. Looked really good picking right up where he left off last year.

Cam Jones caused the fumble on the KR Steele with the recovery.

Moore/Ross/Worthy were the 2s.

Ross sideline catches are still impressive even though he was half a shoe out of bounds on that. I think what is hurting Ross right now is that he isn't a special teams guy (at least a returner)

Herring got fooled badly on the Play Action Pass - crashed down too hard

CB Rolland -Wallace makes a good play on the ball - may have gotten away with a hold on the arm.

Toney makes an appearance on the Punt Return then gets called for a holding on the next play. I really feel like Toney is on the outside looking in at the moment. Unless he really shines in the third game I don't think he makes the team.

Prince got blown up on the block in the backfield where the throw to Toney was too high.

Araiza has just got an ABSOLUTE LEG on him and it looked like Moore (or Kelvin Joseph) caused the fumble on that tackle.

Keith Taylor had the missed tackle on the 69 yard TD but Cochrane was the coverage guy. Then comes back and gets the pick.

Prince looks really good in the open field. The 10 yard run that was called back on the Driskell holding and then the 41 yard run. Going to be some hard decisions in the RB room.

Goddrick got beat again on the Wentz sack.

Noah Gray did the Long Snap on the 56 yard field goal & LRZ kicked off the following kickoff and the 2nd half kickoff.

Remigio with an outstanding kick return in the second half.

Cornell Powell continues to shine better than Moore and Toney.

Yes, King is saying he thinks he’ll exceed his previous sack high by a minimum of 2.5. Hence, teens.

With what we’ve seen from Worthy and Kingsley, I’m very excited to see this offense at full strength.

It’s going to be awesome once we get Thuney, Taylor, and Hollywood back.

Watching again and found a few more interesting things:

-Williams is a nice boundary corner and so is Watson. Nazeeh Johnson did a nice job yesterday as well. Really excited for a 7th rd corner but man he looks like a contributor.

-Conner was almost exclusively at CB yesterday. They want him in the slot so McDuffie can be outside covering WR1’s.

-Jaden Hicks has to play a lot. Probably won’t technically start, but needs to be the 3rd safety playing on every downs and should play Willie Gay’s LB position on obvious passing downs, not Chenal. The kid is an amazing tackler and the 4.45 rumors about his speed are true. He’s got excellent closing speed.

-Dickerson looked really good yesterday. Think he’s making the team again. Wharton looked great last year. Hope we get some pass rush from them next to Chris Jones.

-Curtis Jacobs is a nice reserve player and ST. I think he needs some coaching but he’ll be a nice LB4 soon.

-George Karlaftis looks like he’s gonna get around 13-15 sacks this year. Unreal that this guy is only 23 years old

If Nazeeh Johnson is even a quality depth piece, that amazing 7th round is even better.

Pacheco, Watson, and Johnson.

I still maintain that Pacheco had the best rookie season by any rookie 7th rounder in league history. Colston was the only other major contender, but Pacheco capping it off with a great Super Bowl sealed it for me.

Sarcasm? He needs to move his feet. This has always been his problem. It's like he knows he isn't athletic enough to hang with the speed rush guys and it locks his brain up.

Not sure why they keep him at tackle, he is not good in space.

I happened to notice him looking like an idiot last week patting guys on the back that beat him.

The game was on NFL Network just now on replay and on the huge touchdown pass to Cornell Powell he got beat bad again, half a second later that was going to be a sack. Got beat on the inside.

Our wr room looks great. Worthy and rice were great. Travis will be his usual self. I just want to move on from Moore and Toney. They suck. Toney was expected to be a large part of our offense last year. ****ing Crazy.

I would like to move on from CEH but I don’t think that is happening. Steele>CEH.

I think FAU will be a dud but we don’t need him to be a superstar.

I can’t wait for the season to start and see Mahomes sling the ball. Our offense will be top 10 easily. Defense will take a step back but they won’t need to carry the load that they did last year.

Go Chiefs!!

Practice squad.

He is the designated international pathway player. So he does not count in the squad number.

Obviously playing 2nd string doesn't allow you to answer many questions, but some of the big ones seem trending in the right direction.

Worthy's speed is going to be a menace, and I don't see how even top CBs won't have to worry about it. Kingsley will be a work in progress but it's promising that he hasn't looked out of place. Those were the big ones.

On D who knows re our CBs and LBs. Hicks looks a really useful piece. I'm sure there will be a drop off to some degree. Dickerson played well...but he has also been dog s***t for 5 years in the league. Our DL remains Chris Jones and a bunch of scrub DTs and OK DEs. But it's been that way for awhile and doesn't seem to matter. Assuming Karlaftis keeps improving it'll be fine, even if FAU doesn't do anything.
