Switch is great for the 6 year old, but your son will want the PS5. My son is the same age, and he pretty much abandoned the Switch as soon as he got a PS4. My daughter is 14, and will still break out the Switch every once in a while, but she isn’t much of a gamer.

Switch 2 should come out early next year if you can wait.

Most important part is they can learn how to navigate and fix windows problems, so the PC thing is nice. Get them Tecmo Bowl and a Snes/Genesis and you'll be fine!

For the daughter and 6 year old, the answer is likely the Switch.
For the 12 year old boy, PS5. Thing is, Daughter and 6 year old will likely be happy with the PS5 too, while hte 12 year old boy will be looking to play more "big kid" games on PS5. The biggest factor is, who is gaming with their freinds and what consoles do those friends run? The answer to that is typically playstation. |

It emulates great, but the size is a turnoff for travel. After being a mouse/keyboard guy for so long I get my ass kicked when playing computer games with controller controls. For Retro it's great. Plenty of power, lot of support and large ecosystem. It also excels at new 2D content. Still pop in my Miyoo for travel. Steamdeck stays by the bed. |

Might want to consider picking up a Wii console for that age variance. Those things are a blast for all ages and come in handy for a rained out BBQ for the adults as well.
