I know it’s a pipe dream but if anyone can maximize that pick for KC it’s Veach. If you trade back twice by some miracle you might still have a chance at Ruggs for Reid, get multiple picks in return for Chris Jones, and create cap space while getting Jones to the NFC with the Lions or the Redskins?
Because noone's offering that.

Seriously? This isn’t ****ing Madden. You aren’t packaging Jones and 32 to move up into the top 5 and then trading back twice.

Trades don’t just come about in the 10 minutes you are on the clock. Look at the Mahomes deal. The Chiefs knew how far they could move up and then they started talking to Buffalo before the draft.

True, the frameworks for a dozen or more trades in the first 2 rounds are already mutually agreed upon and most won't be acted upon until the draft starts and players rise or fall.

Besides this trade would have to happen today. I mean before Jones is traded he would have to sign a contract (or the tender but no team is trading for him without him inked for the next 4-5 years). Jones is not going to be traded for picks in this draft.

It's not Madden to think you can trade into the top 3 with that package and use the leverage that the Lions or Redskins currently possess to pit the Dolphins against other teams for something they were highly highly highly likely to do in the first place, which is trade up to get their QB of the future. Especially since the two teams you'd be trading for are defensive minded coaches in Rivera (a Reid disciple and friend btw) and Patricia.

It's not Madden to put yourself into that position instead of another team and use Chris Jones as the leverage to do it. You can easily bullshit one of those teams and say you want Chase Young, or you want Derrick Brown to replace Jones and then go another route. You trade up and say to Miami, make me an offer I got others on the line wanting this pick and see what you can get. The Bears gave up "The Nos. 3, 67 and 111 picks, as well as a 2018 third-round pick, to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for the second overall pick." For Mitch Trubisky and to move up one spot. Yes, it is all predicated on someone trading for the #3 pick and it is a risk, but a worthy one to not be buried by heavy cap numbers next year to where you have to juggle and replace three to four positions with rookies or UFAs in order to make it work. It's alot of work around just to keep Chris Jones for one more year. Not to mention you take away one of the Chargers QB options so they get in a bidding war with another team to trade up to get either Herbert or Tua if they want him.

Worst case scenario you get a first and third this year and a first next year, which is generous considering what the Bears gave up "The Bears traded the Nos. 3, 67 and 111 picks, as well as a 2018 third-round pick, to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for the second overall pick."
Sure.....except:

1. You have to complete a Chris Jones trade today. And that includes compensation AND Jones signing a new deal with his new team.

2. You have to start the conversations now with other teams otherwise they just call your bluff and you’re forced to take a player with no trade down.

All of that shit isn’t happening in the 10 minutes you’re on the clock.

No it won't happen, but hypotheticals and last minute deals are just two of the many things that make the draft great. I'm sure there have been talks between the Chiefs and other teams in regards to Chris Jones. If Deforest Buckner can get the #13 overall pick, and Jones is better than Buckner and a more sure thing, I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility to package something together and make it work out to your benefit. Pipe dream as I said in my first post, but would be fun as hell to see Veach pull off, even if it didn't work out the way he anticipated and he had to settle for Okudah or Brown at #3.

Can you just see Jones rushing in to sign, so he can end up in the waste land that is Detroit.

For years madden strategy was to basically trade one of your highly rated older players for a top 10 pick, then trade down 1-5 slots couple of times packaging your lower picks in for higher picks until you had 10 picks in the first 3 rounds.
