I can see that, but I'd think that the Raiders would then need to jump on Penix right away given the same fear of losing him to someone else before they come up again.

The Raiders have Minshew. I’m sure they’d like a QB but they don’t HAVE to have one. The Broncos have Jack shit at the position.

Yep, all makes sense, but Minshew is a stopgap. Penix could almost certainly do with some "seasoning," so it would make a lot of sense to bring him in with the option of sitting him for a year.

I get so damn excited for every member mock when one gets posted. I don't think you are going to get a lot of push back on this one.

I don't think next year's 2nd will get us up that high and that's about as much as I'd be willing to deal on a trade-up scenario.
I am absolutely not giving up a 2 this year with the depth of this draft and I'd be reluctant to give up a 3. This year's 1st, next years 2nd and this year's 3rd looks like it should probably get us to about 18 in a vacuum but Cincy and Jax ain't gonna deal with us. So, how do we get that over the top to get to Seattle at 16? Man, I just don't see a path forward that doesn't include this year's 2. That's gonna be 32, 64 and next years 2 for 16 and maybe 118? We might have to include 173 to get that done. That's just too much. That turns this into a 1 player draft and I don't think Brian Thomas Jr is that kind of prospect. |

I would do this, if we could get Bowers, but not for Thomas.

How many of the league's best TEs are first rounders? Early first rounders at that? Any of them? Of the, I dunno, 25 best TEs in the league I can see ONE that came in the top 20 picks. 2 if you want to count Pitts. Pitts and Hockenson - that's the list. Kelce, LaPorta, Kittle, Andrews, Goedert, Schultz, McBride - these guys were almost all 2nd and 3rd round picks. Moreover, the financial benefit of a premier one is minimal. And it's an open question whether or not Reid even NEEDS a premier guy to get premier production - he's always had great TE play. It's just the nature of his offenses. I would HATE that deal. Absolutely hate it. |
