This is starting to feel a lot like 1998

Yeah. This is a thread motivated entirely by being the the middle of a blowout on gameday and could find it's way to the Romper Room.

But, the super high expectations before the year, the off the field distractions with the coaching staff (Reid's son, Marty's bartender) and the legal problems from our players (Frank Clark and the host of 1998 players), and an inexplicable collapse. The only thing that's missing is a Monday Night Meltdown.

Here’s my theory.

Andy is having to spend a lot of his mental energy on his son since then and hasn’t been focused on the Chiefs like he was before that. How could he? What his son did was horrible and it reflects on him that it happened on his watch.

To compound the issue of team focus, Pat Mahomes used to be so prepared partly because he was able to spend hours of time at home watching film to prepare and now he has a beautiful child that he wants to spend every minute he can with.

Tyrann Matteiu has wanted a new contract and didn’t show up to anything that wasn’t mandatory in the offseason. He’s the leader of that defense snd that defense hasn’t played like it had any leadership.

Those are the main 3 leaders of this team that are all compromised and it’s showing each week.

Thing is the Chiefs have invested heavily in all three of those areas via draft capital and money. The talent is there, the production is not.

It's pretty damn close. Although the 98 team started 4-1 and then lost 5 of 6. But yea, a lot of similarities.

That title was incorrectly given to Grbac, similar to the starting quarterback job.

That was a "what could have been year" for sure.

At least we had a glimmer of hope until that crushing loss at Dallas late in the year. Losing to Andy's Eagles early ended up being a season swinging loss.
