A Level Headed Review Week 9 2024

Going to try something a little different...

WR corps - I'l be honest I'm not sure if we need another WR or not - feels like it would be a nice security blanket to have another WR besides Ross/Remigio/Washington. DeAndre Hopkins really does catch everything thrown to him, the rainbow pass for 35 yards to Hopkins was disgusting and he literally caught everything Pat threw to him (8/9 86 yards 2 TD's). Worthy needs to work on his sideline awareness a couple of passes he should have had were negated by his feet being too close to the boundary. Watson really made his presence felt as well with 3 receptions on 4 targets for 43 yards.

TE's - It always seems like Kelce fumbles as he just tries a little too hard for extra yardage but his production was good tonight with 14/16 for 100 yards. I think he may be pressing a bit thinking he needs to help shoulder a bigger load. Grey was quiet tonight with only one target and no receptions. Payton Hendershot makes an appearance on the last drive with a 9 yard catch.

OL - I didn't get an opportunity to really watch what was happening on the OL but Vea is a force in the middle really collapsing the pocket and forcing Mahomes into a couple of sacks. I'll have to re-watch to get a really good idea of what specifically was happening.

ST's - pretty good for the most part but not kicking the ball out of the Endzone seemed pretty questionable at the start of the second half. Should always just kick it out of the back of the end zone. I feel like I know why they got lucky on the bounce on the previous KO that skipped in the EZ for the touchback and start at the 20. Trying to replicate that burnt us and let the Bucs start the 2nd half at the 50.

Defense - played really well despite giving up 3 TD's. I didn't feel like the problem was with the CB's this game but the Bucs had their top three receivers out of the game so that may have masked some of the deficiencies. The last drive was really sloppy defense giving up really big chunk plays...... Still personally on the Lattimore train if he is available....but if we decide to stand pat I think we will be okay.

Not sure why we got away from the running game in the first half, but Andy really switched it up in the second half and started ramming Hunt down their throats which really worked well (27 rushes for 106 yards and 1 TD). I didn't get a chance to look at the halftime rushing stats but it wasn't pretty.

OT - A steady dose of Hunt with a sprinkling of Kelce and Hopkins = WIN

Also what are Saced?

Wet/slick field has a tendency to make for closer uglier games. Going for 2 is a coin-flip as lots of people have said but the Chiefs defense is stout against the run so getting a 2 pt conversion isn't a gimme. And CJ95 has a tendency to blow shit up when it's a crucial time in the game as well. Getting a bad weather game and winning it is good experience and a confidence builder for what's ahead.

Worthy will be fine. I do wonder if his hot start maybe made him a little overconfident. May be a good kick in the ass. He’s a good kid so he’ll bounce out of it. It’s not like Burton with the bengals whos already acting like his shit don’t stink

You can't say the defense had a good gane when they let a jobber like Faker with no weapons go 80 on you to tie

And Baker Mayfield is a straight up baller. Tip of the hat to him. Nearly beat us with his WR4/5/6 and a TE that was ranked something like 44th in the league last season. And the 26th ranked defense in the league.

Heck of a game.
Bullshit. Allowing 3 TDs including an 80 yard game tying drive by Faker, Otten, Shepherd is absolutely pathetic

This is a regular season defense. I’ve learned not to take too much stock on it. We saw this just last year where our defense got absolutely worked by Jake browning it feels like in the same way. Lots of screens and misdirections and small ball. We will tighten it up come playoff time.

Gotta remember, Andy chose to punt on 4th and 1 with 16 seconds left, as he really had to at the end of regulation. Had Bowles gone for two and been successful, then the chiefs go for it on 4th and 1 with two TOs left. I think the way they were moving the ball, there is still a really good chance the get into FG range there. 16 seconds and needed about 18 yards.

As to Worthy, I think it is a mixed blessing that with the injuries he is getting more playing time. It is hard to evaluate a rookie this soon. Sure he has made mistakes but has also shown promise. This much playing time will speed up the evaluation time and can only benefit a rookie.
