Normally you want a 2nd round pick to start but because of the value of LT and how expensive they are when they can play I would be fine with a 2nd round spent this way.

True.

I personally just think a 1st rounder should be expected to start.

And for the record, I loved FAU as a prospect. Didn't think he would be used as little as he was.

It can go either way, could be a trading point for a team picking high in the 2nd to jump back in for that 5th year option on a player they covet.

He was always a developmental pick
Looking at the pass rushers in this draft especially first day, probably was wise for Veach to draft FAU in my opinion

Good point. This EDGE class is terrible. Another reason to re-sign Danna too.

I chuckle at people losing sight of how Spags predicates his scheme on having four pass rushers on the defensive line whenever possible. He always has.

On any obvious passing down, you're d-line is going to go (from left to right)
- Karlaftis
- Jones
- Danna
- FAU

That lineup will bring pressure, and it's worth the price tag Danna came with. It also allows our defensive backfield to play the way they play with the safeties showing different looks and the corners being able to play tight man-to-man, not to mention the blitzes they dream up. IMHO, of course.

Yep, totally agree. I get DJ's point re drafting guys to replace players like Danna, but assuming we're not going DE until at least R3...it's not that easy to get an immediate or even long-term contributor. At that price he's worth it.

Yeah **** Mahomes that piece of shit not starting his first year first rounder. Wasted a whole year paying him to do nothing!

QB is not the same as other positions.

And usually if you spend a high first round pick on a QB they will play at some point. The only reason Mahomes didn't was because Andy Reid decided Alex Smith was going to start every game, no matter what.

It was also reported that Mahomes looked better than Alex fairly quickly. So the fact that Mahomes didn't take over had nothing to do with his talent or readiness to play.

My belief is Mahomes probably needed 4-6 games to master enough of the offense to be comfortable starting.

And with that said I'd love to grab Guerendo in the 5th or 6th to pair with Pacheco. Same basic set of attributes (good top speed, very physical, one cut and go) but a much bigger natural build that should hold up to the punishment better. Guerendo looks a bit lean with a build that could add some good muscle and size in an NFL program.

We also need some youth with upside at DT, G, and clearly LT...

Fingers crossed. He's really young and everyone knew he was raw coming out. This wasn't unexpected. We got really lucky with the Greek Phreak learning on the job year 1 and really producing after week 8. That's not often the case for the more raw guys...

Mahomes didn't start because Andy knows how to groom a QB.

Sitting a guy year 1 works out more often than it doesn't. Guys aren't starting more in year 1 because they're more ready or mature - it's because GM's and HC's are trying to save their jobs...

Too small of a sample size to say.

And also the QB's that can sit for 1 year are on better teams like the Chiefs and Packers.

Mahomes could have played his first year. He didn't need to sit the whole time, it was Andy being loyal to Alex and wanting a smooth transition more than Mahomes needing to be "developed". That was a myth.
