Tyler Bray vs Patrick Mahomes II competition for backup

This should be a simple poll. Who do you all think will win the backup job to Alex Smith during training camp and preseason competition? Meaning the one that gets to suit up on game days to trust when Alex Smith gets KO~ed out of a game.

Andy Reid said this is a competition so let them duel it out.

Tyler Bray 5th year man being a back up to a backup gives him the edge knowing the system and being around the guys and coaching. He is currently the #2 quarterback.

vs the challenger

Patrick Mahomes II the #10 pick in the first round after trading up 17 spots and has a lot to learn but has desire to be the starting quarterback sooner than later.

This isn't about Alex Smith but who would you trust to go in a game if heaven forbid something happens to our starting quarterback to keep us alive for the playoffs?

Nagy himself said it takes 3 years to learn and execute the offense. Mahomes is more ready than Bray which is a mixed dichotomy it's good that Patrick is excelling but a mother****er that Bray can't give him a comfortable pace. Alex lost a step and isn't Cam Newton if he gets lit up he could be goneVanessa couple of games

Bray's true fans for sure! I never once felt while he was out there that he was going to put some points up on the board, and that's not a good quality in your backup. Top that off with all of his mistakes in the past preseason games, Reid and the Chiefs would be better off demoting Bray now.

Are you shitting me with this crap?

The guy got to the NFL as a glorified high school quarterback. He got no coaching at all in TN. Then he got hurt and then he got squirreled away on the IR again as a roster machination. That stunted the hell out of his development.

Why is it you believe he doesn't want to be a starter? Because he can't throw on the move? That's literally the only thing he truly ****ed up. No amount of 'want to' in the world will fix that issue. That's biomechanics. Meanwhile I saw a guy who operated within his limitations better than he ever has and who's basic fundamentals are significantly better than they were. That's ALL effort. That's ALL repetition and practice. You're bagging his heart because he's not as talented as Mahiomes and because he was a rockhead as a 20 yr old. But the guy has matured a shotload and I see no evidence to suggest that he's content cashing checks. That guy has worked his ass off from what I can see.

This is his fifth year as backup but not going anywhere to compete for a starting job. There was an opening in Miami he could have said Hey I'd like to go there and prove myself. It's just the idea he seems to be content as a backup to me. Maybe I'm wrong but he hasn't shown anything starting material and that is something you would look for in development improving your roster. I'm sure he has worked his ass off and maybe he has his limitations holding him back but why should we allow that to hold the team back or progression of an upcoming first round quarterback that has more talent and possesses the skills to be great one day? Tyler Bray will never be a great quarterback so therefore he isn't anything but taking a roster spot.

Like I said, I want Mahomes at 2. But 'Mahomes has more talent' goes without saying and is really all the argument needed there. No, nothing should be done in re Tyler Bray that interferes with Mahomes development even a little bit.

As to the rest of that, kindly direct me to the slew of public trade requests from backup QBs when Tannehill went down. They didn't happen. So is literally every single backup in the league a soft bitch in your eyes? Or are you just making a poor argument to buttress a conclusion you had already drawn? That really is a bunch of ridiculous armchair psychologist nonsense.

Of course he's just taking up a roster spot but it's a roster spot that has to be filled anyway. I have no interest in carrying only 2 quarterbacks. So if I need 3, what street FAs are going to be better versed in this offense and more capable than Bray?

I think people are being WAY too hard on the guy because they want Mahomes. Give Bray a fair review in his own right. Don't worry - Mahomes talent will still win out. I just see no reason to characterize Brays performance as worse than it was.

Look at it this way - we're one year removed from seeing a backup candidate self-immolate and play his way right off a roster. Aaron Murray clearly demonstrated last pre-season that he simply cannot play at this level. I was big time pro-Murray. Man was I wrong and I knew it in a hurry. To hear some of you tell it, Bray did the same tonight.

Really? I just do not think that is even a little bit accurate. He honestly raised his station by my viewing.

Tyler Bray tonight got worse not better as he played and that is a big concern especially when it comes to his errant throws that were prevalent in TC I saw first hand. Patrick can learn from them but at Tyler stage he is what he is. I know I'm biassed but I have never been thrilled from Tyler Bray when he got here and we didn't draft him. Isn't he a UDFA? So I will give Tyler Bray all the credit in the world for being able to latch on with a team and work out to his best ability but I just wish that would go else wear because I know we can do better.

Bray first couple throws I though here we go he is in it to make a statement then he shit himself and only made things worse as he played with less confidence in himself and thus the errant throws. That's how I saw him tonight.

I'm with you.

I hated that the Chiefs seemed to be wasting resources on this guy, but he appeared to take a step up and presented himself to be a serviceable backup.

Bray - Mahommes needs to sit a year no matter what. He isn't close to being ready.

Mahomes should play after Smith in the rest of pre season. Playing Bray is pointless.

I want Mahomes to be getting the 2nd string snaps. I don't want him to be the starter this year in the event of a prolonged absence by Smith.

Guess that didn't take long for Patrick take over the #2 spot.

I suppose it's still competition as long as he doesn't **** it up though he will keep it as he is continuing to do wonders in camp. I am not surprised he is second string quarterback after his first preseason action.

I mean ****ing A. After one preseason game and proving himself over and over again in practice to the coach he gets rewarded as second string quarterback.

He will be coming after Alex job in do time but he is next.

Way to go Patrick you earned it.

Congrats to those who believed he could and would do it that voted for him.

Competitor gonna' compete.

I love all this smoke I'm hearing about Shitty "stepping up" and "taking chances".
Okay, whatever.
Hell, go ahead and do it. It's so against his nature, it only serves to speed his demise.
