Bucs, Mike Evans agree to 2-year, $52M contract

For those of you hoping Veach would poach him

Quote:
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and five-time Pro Bowl receiver Mike Evans reached agreement on a two-year, $52 million contract that includes $35 million guaranteed, his agent, Deryk Gilmore, told ESPN on Monday.

Evans, who was to enter free agency next week, now has a real chance to start and finish his career as a "Buc for life" in Tampa.

Gilmore said the deal, which averages $26 million per season, is the largest for a wide receiver this old on his third contract.

"Fire Them Cannons!" Evans posted to Instagram on Monday.

If anything I figured the WR draft class would push the FA WR dollars down...but he's probably the exception.

Just be honest. We're all ok with it.
Eh, he's been there his whole career, he has a SB ring and he's on a HOF trajectory, his legacy is fine either way.

Tampa is relatively cheap too. Access to some of the best beaches in the country, big city amenities but not far from more secluded, smalltown locations as well. Hurricanes rarely hit that side of the state head-on.

Evans is living the dream?

That's so exceedingly rare....it's ALWAYS about the biggest paycheck.

He already has a Super Bowl. Not sure why anyone thought he’d be interested in a lesser deal to play on a better team.

It's only a waste of money if your team has no chance to win the Super Bowl. Which is what it is for the Bucs. It would have been money well spent with us.

Just think how many more Super Bowls the Chiefs could have won over the past two seasons.

I've wanted Lockett for a few of years. He's past the 30 year old plateau that Reid and Veach don't seem to cross with receivers very often, but he *might* be an exception and worth the effort? Mooney just seems like a no-brainer to explore at this point. Him or Hollywood Brown.

Default argument is default argument for everything. Must have same exact team as last year or does not compute. Must make sure we have shitty WRs on purpose or we will not win Super Bowl.

You bring up a good point, winning Super Bowls the right way gets boring.

We should demand winning Super Bowls in all the different ways..

Win with offense... ✓
Win with defense.. ✓
Win while spending wisely... ✓

Now let's waste money on an aging receiver and win another... LFG!

Lockett's age is certainly a factor, but if we're talking about a smart, stable vet (with very good hands) who could be had at $6-8MM, it could be worth it.
