They have some pretty cool cardio stuff for guys with leg injuries. He can keep his cardio up.

But the stamina in his legs is a different matter. He can probably be on the low impact stuff like the cycles in December (usually once you're off crutches), but yeah - it's not ideal to be banking on him being in football shape come January.

Watson was playing like a top 10 corner, Rashee a top 5 to 10 WR. MASSIVE losses and feel bad for young, developing talent.

Agreed, and they also prefer offensive minded HCs....but if Spags told his agent to put out the word that he wanted one more shot, surely a few of : LV, NYG, Dalla, JAX, or Carolina would call with blue-steel boners

I think that was the thought with trading for Uche. The DL was not getting to Purdy very often in the SB, especially from the edge, so they put Sneed and McDuffie on islands and blitzed the shit out of Purdy. A lot of that was bc Ominhu was out for that game and Karlaftis was getting stonewalled by Trent Williams.

With Watson out that plan becomes a bit harder, but with Uche providing him his Osi Umenyiora type speed rusher that could change a lot.

Spags could run the NYG defense only rushing 4 and having more bodies back to help cover.

I think this is the biggest issue. Teams are typically gravitating towards offensive minded HCs.

And if you're going for a defense guy, you're gonna focus on a younger one, IMO.

Now what I would do if I were a team like NYG or Carolina who might struggle to get 'pick of the litter' among HC candidates, is that I'd talk to a HC like Spags who may have a 3-5 year shelf life AND hire some young hot-shit QB coach or Offensive Assistant as my OC.

And the pitch is a simple one - this guy's gonna get the defense figure out and you're gonna have the keys to the offense. If this works, you're going to get a TON of credit (see Ben Johnson) and you're either in the driver's seat to take Spags job if/when he hangs 'em up or you're going to be a really attractive candidate elsewhere.

I think focusing exclusively on an offensive HC might be a little short-sighted in some circumstances.

That's what happens when you string together six years of the same scheme and coaching and it's why they'll be good even with the current CB room. It's gonna take a sharp minded CB to come in and get the scheme down on the fly. No blown coverages from misunderstandings. Not impossible but something to think about.
They've also been here long enough to see the results and buy into that system, so that has to help too.

That's a sound, common sense approach...which mean we are safe from poaching by Carolina, both NY teams, Cleveland, and Dallas!

Gonna be a busy Monday. Might see if an opportunity for a corner is on any of those teams.

But who would we want to trade with that we haven't already pilfered from?

Saints?
Browns?

Not that I believe that it would ever happen, but a good landing spot for Spags might be TB. I think Bowles is on the hot seat and they already have a really good OC and offense. Justneed to fix that defense, and who’s been better at that than Spags?

But I think because of the current trend of hiring young OCs, corn will get the job.
