*****The Patrick Mahomes Thread*****

IT ****ING HAPPENED

OP UPDATE:

Because of all the interest in this thread, I've place all of the video content of Patrick Mahomes II's college career, and draft day goodness into a single post that can be found here. Enjoy!

Pretty much.

He’s at the point where it doesn’t really matter what he does statistically. He’s ascended beyond that.

Literally no one cares about LeBron’s points per game anymore. It’s just title for him.

Same with Mahomes. We know he can go crazy in any given week.

Titles are all that matters.

True.

I would like to see him win a few more MVPs though.

It only helps his GOAT case.

He would trade both of his regular season MVP's for 2 more Super Bowl rings. Zero doubt about that.

It was a shorter list than we're used to, for sure. We couldn't move the ball, we gave up quite a bit between the 20s, we turned the ball over. We were sloppy and penalty-prone.

And friggen won anyway.

That was like a D- game for the Chiefs. And that's what great teams do - they win without their fastball. They stick around long enough to pull it out late even when seemingly nothing is going right.

Because the only real constant positive presence for the Chiefs on Sunday was Trent McDuffie absolutely wearing Chase. And somehow that was enough.

How many times did we play nearly perfect against Manning/Brady/Elway/whoever just for one of those ****ers to find a way to win at the end even though they weren’t great that day?

Seems like it happened 100 times.

Yes, but we also know that’s a bit of a political and statistical award.

A very good player having the season of his life and being on the best team of his career will win it a lot (see Matt Ryan).

Also, we seem to have figured out how to give Mahomes at least a competent defense every week. He rarely needs to throw for 450 and 5 TDs to win. And we know Andy will put as little on tape as possible.

That was their gameplan and why not?

Cover 2 literally gets an extra defender deep. It begs offenses to run the ball and that’s why Andy did it. Lou knows that Andy and Patrick don’t want to do that.

Cut off the deep pass and force the offense to have more opportunities for a a mistake via penalty or turnover. And it worked beautifully.

If the defense is dropping 7 players 10-30 yards deep then naturally the running lanes up front and flat will be open.dropping 8 on obvious passing downs makes this even harder bc it’s basically 8 defenders vs 4 receivers.

The question is what do offenses do to beat that defense?

Teams playing this type of defense are requiring these young QBs to sit in the pocket and read these things out. Alot of them aren't able to do it.

Pat tends to leave clean pockets and want to run around and make plays, which is fine. But at some point (like he did in the playoffs) you've gotta sit in there and anticipate and make throws from there.

Jimmy G has a better career passer rating than Tom Brady.

Rodgers and Mahomes also blow him out of the water in that regard.

They need to start attacking the open spaces. We saw them do this last year. Cover 2 safeties are deep so take advantage of the area around the sideline with out routes and corner routes.

I don’t think that could mean any less.

Jimmy G’s only played two full seasons in his career. Brady maintained a ridiculous 3:1 TD:INT ratio over a 23 year career.

Garopp’s career year was 3900 yards, 27 TDs and 13 INTs. That was an average year for Brady back in 2004 before all the passing rule changes.

You can argue that Brady's career numbers are weighed down by what he was prior to 2007, but it doesn't change the fact that he wasn't particularly good in the first quarter of his career (and still won 3 SBs in that stretch due to an elite defense around him).
