I mean the article said the basically called to see if he was available. It's not like they made an offer. For all we know they didn't even consider what it would realistically take on their end. Just made an inquiry. Teams do this for good players all the time. They are non stories (because they are legitimately....non stories) and content craving sites like ESPN will drop these types of "nuggets" before the game because content.
