Call Your Shot: Who's the Chiefs first pick?

Rule: You can change your answer up until next Thursday!

This might be the toughest year yet for this. I can see so many different possibilities, especially considering that I think there's a solid chance the Chiefs trade up.

Edit: It's draft day and I'm changing my pick!

Amarius Mims, OT, Georgia

There's way too much smoke about the Chiefs trading up and/or them targeting a LT. I'm going with a guy that I think could make it into our range, who also has the kind of upside that would have Veach itching to make a move to go get him.

I think the Chiefs really want to solve their LT position long term. Veach will try like hell to move up to get one of the better LTs but it will be hard because a lot of teams are trying to get LTs too. Rumor is Washington with their 2 early rounds 2 picks are trying to move back into round 1 and grad an LT. I know who I don't want: Saumataia. He has a lot of holes in his game and a lot of the pro drafterbators are down on him for those holes. I would be fine with Morgan. I know he has short arms but his technique and movement are excellent. Worse case he's a good guard.

I'm beginning to think Patrick Paul might be the guy if we stay at 32. It's risky though.

I get pissy sometimes when GMs in any sport make a bad deal and the response is "Hey, he could only get what he could get..."

My response is "Hey, his job is to build a market..."

I bluff with friggen rags every week. I've had absolute garbage cases where I've ended up walking away with more than I should've even plead, let alone been paid out on. But my damn job is to convince the other guys otherwise and I can typically do a nice job of it. So that's the chair I operate from.

That said - if I only worked with 31 other guys, how long would that actually work? How many times could I pull it off before the other 31 know I might just be full of shit. And if I do that, have I torched so much goodwill in the process that I'm now toxic - so is the juice actually worth the squeeze?

I feel like that may be the point Howie Roseman is reaching. It seems like other teams may be wary to deal with him because he's starting to develop a bit of a reputation for being full of shit.

I don't think Veach has because frankly I don't think he tries. I don't think he makes those bluffs to build a market. I think he asks around and takes the best offer he gets. I wonder if its not a philosophical difference - it isn't that he couldn't build a market (false or otherwise) but rather he elects not to in order to try to keep dialogue a little more cordial and transparent. Which would make sense - I know when I work in Oklahoma for instance, the cards are on the table during the first phonecall. Because that's just the best way to work out there.

In St. Louis? The **** if you're gonna know what I'm willing to do. Because I know you're lying as well.

It's a long way of saying that the NFL trade market has to be a lot weirder than most of us realize because of how insular it is. It's just a really small fraternity of players and it gets smaller still when you start to weed out direct competitors who just aren't likely to work with you regardless.
I think you're probably right and I think a lot of GMs STILL don't want to mess with Beach.

Secretary: Bert from KC is on line 1.

Other GM drafting in the 20s: Tell him to **** off.

Secretary: Ok, that's what I figured.

Ok, I have been banging the drum for Brian Thomas Jr. The consensus is get a LT. I HOPE the Chiefs do not forfeit a lot of draft capitol to move up to get JC Latham - last in line. I am shifting gears and now want Xavier Worthy with hopefully our 32 pick. Put me now as Xavier Worthy as our first round pick. I think I was desiring a player we would be "reaching" for. Count me in on the Xavier Worthy band wagon.

If Veach does what Veach does then that is cool with me without question! I am now selecting Xavier Worthy as our 1st round pick. DONE!

MY CONCERN...https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2024/i...al-predictions

15. Indianapolis Colts
Xavier Worthy, WR, Texas

Here's one where I'm going all-in on intel. The Colts have been linked to Worthy in numerous phone calls and texts over the past week, enough so that I'm buying it. The Colts do need speed at receiver, and Worthy has record-setting 4.21 wheels. Putting him in the mix with Michael Pittman Jr. and last year's second-rounder Josh Downs makes for a sweet trio of pass-catchers around Anthony Richardson. Imagine Worthy matched with Richardson's arm on vertical routes in Indy?

A co-worker today told me this is like Christmas Eve! Yes, IT IS!

Xavier Worthy, WR TEXAS

If we stay at 32 I would be juuuuuust fine with this. Even if Adonai Mitchell is also available.

WAAAAAYYYYY to much draft capitol to get there! Hard pass! You are talking pick 8, 9 or 10 to get him. This would be like the Saints moving up for Reggie Bush! circa 2005!

I don’t think I’d trade up at all for bowers. Hes just the shiniest turd in a pile of shit tight ends. Value wise it makes no sense. What you’d save on a top wr or lt vs paying one compared to bowers and what you save on a top tight end.

Agree 100%.

I mean he's a pass-catching TE. This isn't a premier in-line guy or anything, he's a move TE.

Okay - so why would I rather have him than someone like Mitchell who's taller, faster and not that much lighter?

I'm just not understanding this idea that we need to go crazy chasing a TE. They're found all over the draft and few of the truly premier guys (1 of them, to be exact) came from the 1st.

Just completely out on Bowers.

And come draft day, I suspect many others will as well.

We shall see...

I think Veach is on the horn for Rome Odunze at #9 or Brian Thomas Jr at #16. Going for history and a 3 peat push the chips all in a bit

AFCCG against the Bengals when we were running practice squad players out there at receiver followed by the joke of a wide receiver room we ran out there all of last season...I think Veach, Reid and Mahomes have said enough is enough.
