I know. Very weird. He's had significant health issues for a while, though. I believe COVID weakens the heart, so my guess would be heart failure?

Prine beat cancer twice. He was a tough old bird. I loved the humor and simplicity of his songs. It's hard to write amusing songs and not be considered a novelty act. His words were always plain and direct and colorful. And his guitar playing was like listening to a music box. An old saying comes to mind about his passing:
"Dont be sad.
What a life he had
If he were here today
He wouldn't cry or pray
He'd give you his gitar
And ask you to play."

I think it was more than a partial lung removal. He had work done on his throat and it affected his singing, which you could hear in the album 'Fair and Square', his first album after his surgeries.

He had cancer twice:

The first time was in the late 90s, and that's the one with a tumor removal from his neck that affected his neck.

Second time was lung cancer in 2013, where he did have a lung removed.

Dude was a fighter who played as many shows as he could while he was alive.

I've gotten to see him 6 times over the last couple of decades. He's always put on an amazing show, even if I've heard the "happy enchilada" story more times than I care to admit.
