Ed Harris takes Top villain role in HBOs "Westworld" reboot

Sweet. Loved this film when I was a kid. It's ripe for a reboot.

Doesn't sound like he's playing the Yul Brenner role though

Ed Harris is coming to series TV: The Abyss and Apollo 13 actor has signed on as the Big Bad in HBO’s Westworld reboot.
The four-time Oscar nominee’s character is called The Man in Black, and is described as “the distillation of pure villainy into one man.” He joins previously cast star — and fellow series television newcomer—Anthony Hopkins, along with Evan Rachel Wood, Jeffrey Wright, and Shannon Woodward.

The Warner Bros.-produced sci-fi pilot produced by J.J Abrams, Jerry Weintraub, and Bryan Burk updates Michael Crichton’s 1973 classic film about a theme park where androids fulfill dark human desires. Harris’ description might sound like he’s playing the Yul Brynner killer-cowboy robot role, but it seems like actor Rodrigo Santoro was tapped for that part—and online production rumors suggest The Man in Black is actually a human character who sadistically abuses the androids.

Harris will soon be seen the feature film Run All Night, starring opposite Liam Neeson and Joel Kinnaman. Harris won a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Emmy for his work in HBO’s Game Change.

This looks like it could be better than the original movie. Not quite a Battle Star Galactica level upgrade because that original TV show was shit, but along those lines.

Loved the original as a kid.

I'm actually surprised it took them this long to reboot it because the premise is ripe in the digital/Information Age we live in.

Take the whole production crew from True Detective Ver.1 and transplant them to this series...and dont let JJ Abrams touch anything that requires creative input. He's the generic kiss of death...just take his production cashflow and lock the door.

This has the potential to be really great...like anything, the director they choose will either destroy a great opportunity or make it alive. *see Speilberg trying to understand Kubrick's AI...too vast of topic for him.

I heard some people who had advanced copies of this on the Stern show talking it up. They had a ton of positive things to say.

That was quite the futuristic movie back in the day. Remake as a series is a great idea. Ed Harris is awesome too.
