*** Official Youth, High School, College and International Wrestling Thread ***

I can't be the only wrestling fan on this site. In fact, I know I that's not the case. The almighty king of n00bs, Sorter, is a wrestling fan. I figure there could be more.....????

Discuss anything wrestling related:

Youth wrestling: Heck, wrestling in Iowa has a rabid Youth wrestling scene...I lived through it, my younger brother lived through it and my brothers who are 15 and 13 are living through it, well the 13 year old is anyway...he's in high school. The 13 year old is a 7th grader who has been wrestling since he was 5 years old and has accumulated 4 state championships since his second grade year...a total badass. Believe it or not, Iowa has a youth wrestling forum that is hopping...even during the summer. Iowans take this stuff seriously. I'm assuming other states have rabid youth followings, for when I watch my bros at National tourneys, we are constantly running into kids and super clubs from other states that are amazing. Ironically, one of the biggest youth tourneys our club hits annually is the Park Hill Individual and Dual tournament...which to my knowledge is in Kansas City (I've never attended that one). Do any of you have kids who are wrestling? If so, how are they doing?

High School Wrestling: High school and college wrestling in Iowa is big... we are known for it, ask AC Slater. State tournament is a big, televised event at the Wells Fargo dome...you will see probably 10 times more spectators at state wrestling in Iowa then any other high school sporting event in Iowa. With some of the crazy talent I have seen/wrestled against at Fargo Nationals, I am assuming that it's either on the rise or just as big in other states as well... What are your thoughts on some of the high school wrestlers and/or teams out there?

College Wrestling: Hell, you Missourians semi-recently had those Askren brothers. I've never met Max, but have met Ben. He was the celebrity guest at Iowa Grade School State one year...he signed autographs and handed the medals and wall charts to all of the kids on the podium that year, which was cool because my youngest brother won it that year and was able to get his championship singlet signed by him. I was with my brother when he approached him....Askren struck me as a funny, goofy type of dude. I don't know Max, but someone posted his blog on an Iowa wrestling message board and the dude seems like a character. I know there are some Oklahomans' who post on this board. Anyone see Okie State defeat Iowa this past weekend? Iowa's first dual loss of the year. Anyone have any thoughts on college wrestling?

International Wrestling: Any of you have any thoughts on the international wrestling scene? Future Olympians, future Olympic champs, future World champs, Greco, Freestyle, etc.?

Wrestling Memories/General Discussion: Any of you have any memories you'd like to share from your personal experience(s) of wrestling when you were in youth, high school or college? Any opinions on females wrestling with males. Last year, a girl named Megan Black made history in Iowa by placing at state. Do you believe females should be able to wrestle with males at that age? Any thoughts on weight cutting? What are some of the most memorable matches to you? Who are your favorite wrestlers? One match that always sticks out to me is this:

Crazy match.

My favorite wrestler (besides my bros and former teammates) of all time is ironically not an Iowan. I don't really have a favorite team in wrestling...I root for individuals. It's a dude from Ohio that I initially hated because I didn't like the way he conducted himself after a match vs. my brother in the national duals when he and my brother were Seniors in High School, in which he defeated my brother. Kid was cocky. He and my brother both went on to wrestle D1, so I followed him since I knew who he was. I ended up becoming a huge fan of the kid's style...the kid could hit cradles from ANY position. He went on to win 2 National titles for Ohio State...and did so both years as an underdog, for he'd lose quite a few silly matches during the season, presumably due to his risky, but dangerous style that worked well for him at NCAA Nationals. It's a dude named Jeff Jaggers. First vid is what really put his name on the map as a high school wrestler. 2nd vid is his 1st NCAA championship as a Junior, in a match where he was a huge underdog, broke his ankle during the match and gutted it out and won. My favorite wrestlers tend to be the ones who are risk takers or brawlers...not afraid to be aggressive or take chances. I can't stand stallish wrestlers who are successful as hell simply because they don't open up and therefore don't give up points and score their own points by capitalizing on the other wrestler's aggression. Boring.

So what ya got?

Note: I have been posting on wrestling message boards for 12 years and I (and I'm sure everyone else involved with the sport) have heard every wrestling joke (rolling around with men, etc.) imaginable, but if ya want to clown on the sport, shoot... it was inevitable to happen anyways on CP, so have at it!

Haha yeah I’m around... I always get really busy during wrestling season... it’s when I post here the least. This year this was multiplied because I am now in charge of doing the HS rankings in Iowa and am a journalist for The Predicament.... So yeah, that’s been time consuming as hell. Lotta names to remember.

RICO!!! DREW FOSTER!

So what was his deal in HS? I remember checking in on that HS team because of you. If I recall correctly, Foster wasn't even the highest achiever.

Was he always regarded as the most talented person on that team, and just never put it together?

Brian Smith does an amazing job. Absolutely locks down in-state talent

Brock Mauller (great name) placed 6th as a true freshman and Zach Elam was one match short of AA as an undersized Heavyweight true freshman . Lost like 15 points from the Miklus transfer (sad deal with his dad) and returning AA Grant Leeth was out for the season.

Lots of young talent, but they won't win nationals anytime soon. The wrestling hotbeds in PA, OH, and NJ have gotten too good for the Midwest to keep up with. Mizzou can't consistently recruit those areas.. though they've had a couple Ohio guys over the years.

Eierman is taking an Olympic redshirt, but Mizzou is set up for a nice run when he returns in 2021.

Penn State is a machine. Cael Sanderson is amazing.

I'd like to beat Iowa one year.

They have beaten Iowa. Mizzou's one shot was 2015, but Cox and Waters both gagged in the semis. If they win those matches they likely get at least one more NC in Cox, which gives them enough points to win.

I've been watching Zach's exploits for quite some time. I do believe he will be a National Champion....

Ok so I started my own wrestling site. Have my own site and message board and all. It’s called The Pin Doctors abbreviated as PinDox. We do rankings, fantasy wrestling, tournament previews, several ongoing series, etc. my goal is to depict the soul and the personality of wrestling opposed to the regular “wrestling robot” depiction that you generally see on other sites. Cover the past, present and make predictions of the future. You guys should check it out! Follow on Twitter @pin_dox and like it on Facebook via facebook.com/thepindoctors The URL is http://thepindoctors.com

If any of you want to be part of the Wrestling Dad or Remember the Wrestler series let me know. My belief is everyone has a story that is valuable and relatable. I am doing these for guys who never qualified and guys who won NCAA’s... hell, I have one on Eric Juergens that is ready to go...

Stop by and have fun! I think my content is going ok so far!

Ok, so I am having a great year. I started a new wrestling website a couple months ago called The Pin Doctors and it is a full-fledged hit. The Chiefs made me cry from happiness over..and over...and over... Never thought I'd see them win one...honestly. I seriously had no hope of that ever happening.

My brother, Brennan Swafford is a die hard Chiefs fan as well.

Then this happened:

That earned him his 2nd OW of the Heart of America Conference award. And he's just a true Sophomore. So he qualified for Nationals as expected. As a Freshman, he placed 7th at nationals.

First match at nationals, he beat a Greco world team member, 20-2... here is his interview after that:

He then won his next 3 matches to make the finals, which were televised on ESPN3 Saturday night and wrestled like the little athletic genius he is:

And then he gave me this awesome interview right after:

My brother is a national champ. My brother, who was snubbed so badly in the recruiting process, proved everyone wrong!!! Brennan was obviously a great wrestler in HS, but was also first team all-state football and placed like 5-6 times in sprinting events in track. He originally signed on to playy football at Graceland, but missed wrestling and wanted to save his body so he can try out for the NFL after he graduates. And I'm dead serious when I say this... it's feasible for him. He is a FREAK athlete. I'm dead serious when I say that he should be looked at. He won the All-Hawkeye Athlete of the year as a Senior in HS which is given to the region's best all-around athlete and for whatever reason, he couldn't get a call or an email back. Not from one D1 school...out of 12. HE SHOWED THEM!!! AND WE ALL KNEW HE WOULD!!!

He was also first in the state for art with a sketch he drew of Bruce Lee in HS. An art nerd and current graphic design major.

I have some people to thank on here who have followed his career over the years on here.

Glorydayz, Lonewolf, Burt, Sorter, Hamas as kept up here and there, Rudy Lost the Toss, Brianfo.... the two main ones though:

Iowanian. He has followed him for years and has offered great praise and insight.

And...

Clay Wendler. He made this awesome highlight reel of him last year despite his fanbase giving him shit for posting non-Chiefs material:

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ENJOYING THIS RIDE WITH ME, GUYS!!! AND HE'S JUST A SOPHOMORE!!!

Couple more things: Let's get Caitlyn Jenner (Graceland) to acknowledge him!!!

And Clay, let's do another video... you know I am cool about these things as far as the time you will spend on them.... take a look at the videos, even the spoofs and keep in mind that he has 2 nicknames that the wrestling world knows him as...."Burns" and "Mr. Dangerous." "Burnin' Down the House" by Talking Heads and "Dangerous" by Busta Rhymes as possible songs?

I've become somewhat ok at doing these reels... Here are two that I did for my favorite current HS wrestler (I'm a huge fan of unapologetic multisporters).

LET'S COLLABORATE!!! PIONEERS OF THE MEDIA COVERAGE OF THE LONG AWAITED RISE OF WRESTLING!!! It's coming... I'm on a mission to give wrestling a better, more accurate and funner personality through my site and it's working...and you guys all know how obsessive I am when I put my mind to something...

So yesterday I was the guest on a wrestling podcast show called “Hager’s Happy Hour.” The hosts are Tony Hager and Adam Fellers from IAwrestle, which sparked a lot of excitement, for there has been a rather big twitter beef between Hager and I that everyone followed. it got ugly. yesterday was my first time meeting him in person and we had a great time! For real, the podcast is entertaining as shit and if you wanna check it out, you can by going to “Hager’s Happy Hour” on facebook and watching the recent one with “Joshua Swafford.” I am the guy with the black hat and black shirt with the yellow “319” lettering on it. Went for two and a half hours!

After the show, a famous Hawkeye wrestler/World champ wanted to meet me so he hooked me up with a bottle of wine and we went out and got shit faced all night.

my life is weird right now.
