I don't remember where I had been, but I was coming home early one morning to the apartment where my wife and I lived and I saw a guy hanging from the balcony of the building next door. I yelled to my wife to bring a knife and I went over and held the guy up until she got there and cut the belt he was trying to hang himself with. His girlfriend and his roommate came out of the apartment when they heard the commotion and took over from there. They'd been up all night partying and they said he'd been having trouble with depression. The cops came and took a statement. I never saw the guy again and never heard what happened to him.
Other than that, I've lead a pretty sheltered life. |

Not me....but one of the ladies that I used to work with. She's older....in her 70s. She went to school with a shy kid who didn't really have any friends. As they got older....her Mom became friends with his Mom. Eventually....in their teenage years....their moms tried to set them up on a date. It never happened and her family moved away.

Don't talk about it much but when I was in the 5th grade my father had a nervous breakdown(thought mom was having an affair) and I spent the better part of 6 hours experiencing him fighting with his demons and going back and forth between madness and loving. My mom actually credits me for saving her life that night and shortly before we escaped my father was coming at me with a hammer.
Much more to the story but it's the closest brush to madness I've ever had and ever want to have.BTW,father got plenty of professional help, found God and is remarried now for 30 years and doing well. |

My downstairs neighbor hung herself w/ a bedsheet in her apartment after a tiff w/ her b/f. I caught a glimpse of her body(a day(?) after if happened). Only dead body I've seen that wasn't in a casket.

I’ve got a cousin whose ex-wife hired a hit man to kill him. He got ambushed in his own house and ended up talking the guy out of it.

Once worked with an old man who hired a hitman to kill his brother over a land dispute. The hit was successful, except he also killed the guy's mother. They both ended up on death row in Alabama.
