2020 NFL Salary Cap Decrease

On Sunday Overthecap.com showed the Chiefs having over $13 M of Cap space.

Today it shows us as having negative $5,800,920 of cap space.

This is an adjustment that is happened league wide and there are teams like the Vikings -18 M and Raiders -$17 M that are far worse than the Chiefs.

Spotrac.com is also showing a big change.

This is not a "Sky is Falling" situation since 19 teams in the NFL are showing in the negative. It must be a temporary way of figuring a team's salary cap until rosters are adjusted to get down to the 53 player count.

Does anyone know why there is a Salary Cap change?

Sorry...this is not really a NFL Draft thread but I figured you all would probably have a better handle on this question.

This forum has kind of evolved into more granular discussions that benefit from less Lounge forum asshattery.

That being said, Spotrac has us under $10m in cap space. And you’re absolutely right about OverTheCap, who now show us $5m over the cap.

I don’t know how these sites arrive at their cap assessments. The NFLPA has put us above $13m for the year, however, and they’re the horse’s mouth on the issue.

The guy who runs OverTheCap believes the NFLPA is still using offseason accounting.

There's a lot of information that OTC isn't directly privy to when it comes to contracts and cap data. The NFLPA database is updated daily. I don't see any reason to see it as inaccurate.

OTC doesn't appear to even be accounting correctly for player opt-outs, so the owner may want to start thinking about his own system too. They likely wouldn't even be able to get voluntary vs high risk opt-out information because of HIPAA, so that's probably moot, but they could "try" to get the stipends correct and should get the roster/workout/option bonus stuff correct (at least based on their contract knowledge). They also don't get reliable information on credits issued for cap charges from the previous year that should not have been charged, such as for likely to be earned incentives and so forth.
