As I said in the other thread
He knows the Niners are basically in their last year of trying to win so he's going to use it to get 1 last payday because he doesn't have many years left. They can't win without him and after this year they are going to lose a **** ton of guys, he is using all his leverage for one last pile of money. |

Would have enable them to pay Aiyuk and cut Deebo and Williams. And yes Trent is 36 and looked terrible in the SB |

Has no guaranteed money left. Guess he's ensuring he won't be a cap casualty anytime soon

I'd say there's a good chance they have to pay him at the end of this year. Sure he has another year left but he's making pretty much the minimum living in San Francisco, he's getting paid as soon as he possibly can and since he is making the minimum he won't have the usual benefit of being able to lessen the early year cap hits because there's no way to go but up from his current contract number.

I mean the CLEAR best LT in football has cost them $18 million/season for the last 4 seasons. They've gotten a bargain on him and if they only pay him $20 million this season, they'll get 5 seasons for less than $100 million for a guy playing at a HoF level. And they can cut him as soon as they feel so inclined so at no point will he be able to recoup that money; the moment he's making $30 million, he's gone. His 2026 salary is only $22 million so at that point the 49ers pay him less than $120 million for the peak of an almost certain HoF career. This makes all the sense in the world from his standpoint. And frankly, he has $170 million in career earnings -- he could walk away for good and it wouldn't matter a bit to him. Yeah, SF is gonna have to guarantee some money or come up with a bonus. I don't think he's gonna blink here. |
