I think the concern here is that it implies more of a "rah rah" approach to getting better. Just work harder at doing what you're already doing, which so far has led to a historically bad defense that is on pace to shatter the record books for it's level of ineptitude.
Definitely agree that coaches shouldn't go into specifics of what they are going to change, but some generic references that you are seeing things on film that can be corrected and you actually are going to change going forward might inspire more confidence.
