The writer of the Op-Ed doesn't even seem to know that there are different types of N95 masks. N95 masks with a respiration valve are easier to breathe through, but provide less protection, and are not recommended in sterile fields:

I haven't seen many wearing surgical respirators much less N95 surgical masks. Have seen some industrial N95 masks. That surgical respirator still is only expected to eliminate 95% .3 microns. The Coronavirus is .1 micron or less.
