A coach like Harbaugh can decide that he's in love with the guy's speed and say that he's going to try to turn him into a QB. There's nothing wrong with trying it, particularly if the cupboard is bare at QB and you're picking at the bottom of the draft and have few other options. A speculative pick might make sense in that situation.
But you're still essentially saying "We're going to try to be the first to do something that has never worked in NFL history."
And where they've ended up is someone who looks like they might be able to succeed if they get a lot better and are in a great situation. But this year, on a pretty good team, we saw that they are still not close at all.
