They couldn't deliver on a 35k mainstream sedan that would have a lot higher volume. There's no reason to think that 39k model truck will ever sell.
Also, Trucks and SUVs are where vehicle companies can currently make good margins. If you wanted to go against the grain on that, I'm not sure you picked a design that lines up with mainstream volume.
