HTTYD is definitely not a comedy. It's a thematically packed kids thriller/drama with some comedy moments.
I think that's part of the problem. Dreamworks is doing too much marketing as a "kid's movie" for their stuff, which is keeping adults away. Disney manages to lure both adults AND children to their fare; Dreamworks does it only with the "Shrek" franchise, it seems.
